bubblegum color trick worm

Featured Replies

i had a buddy who said to try these...so i was wonderin'......is he for real?  or messin' with me?  :-?

anybody tried this color?

if so, best to use in clear water?

and how did you rig it?

thanks..

I heard that last year in Wisconsin during early season this color worked pretty well. Personally, I have had better success with shades of green/brown/ and black flaked stuff.

Like I said, I heard they worked, never tried one myself

No, he ain 't messing you, it 's for real.

Yup, I use it in clear water.

I only fish it for "topwater" action and this is how I rig it:

3/0 EWG hook

1-2 ft of 17 lbs test nylon leader

1 barrel swivel.

Measure the hook to the bait, where you supposed to insert the hook point to make the bait straight it ain 't where you gonna insert it, extend a few 10ths of inch towards the tail and insert your hook, the bait will end up kinked. Tie your leader to the swivel and the swivel to the main line. You are ready to fish.

Cast and after it hits the surface twitch with your rod tip, the bait darts and rotates every time to twitch, killa technique for attacking the shallows. The bright pink color allows you to see the bait and what 's it doing.

Yes, they work. I always have a few Bubblgum or Merthiolate, and Limetreuse in my box. Like Raul, I have found them to work best in clear water. If the fish are there and they aren't hitting my greens, browns, or blacks; I'll chunk one of these out. 80% of the time, they will hit it. I think it is something different to them, something they have not seen alot of, so they hit it out of curiosity or reaction. I use them as a last ditch before heading for the dock.

Find an old Bass Pro catalog from 1989 and it will be full of bubble gum colored baits.  It was the Sexy Shad of that time.  :)

Not messin with ya.  I fish it weightless like a soft jerkbait.  Really fun because you can see it and watch fish eat it.

HAHA me and Triton_Mike got into a debate about lure color a few weeks ago where we talked about the bubblegum trickworm.

No matter what color philosophy you take you have to try this lure out. Fish it high and fast or low and slow, just fish it and you'll catch one this time of year.

Thats definitely a different rig from what I use. Looks close to wacky sytle. I'm gonna have to give that a try!

bigbadarron, it's a 2/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook model # 02412 with the barb removed.

The bottom worm is my version of weedless wacky.

thanks a lot guys...

sounds like i may have some luck with em'.. we've had so much rain the water is too muddy right now.  there is a place i have in mind though when the water clears up.

they look good enough to chew on..  8-)

i really appreciate the ways to rig them... Raul...

and the pic..i will have to try that... close to wacky... ?

You can also use them in muddy water too.  IMO they work best as a topwater bait.  I like to rig mine on a 3/0 Owner offset worm hook.  I fish it by just twitching it real slow back to the boat or shore.

    hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can.  I have found this color to be a God-send in some of the green-milk lakes I fish.

I first bought bubble gum when i needed some trick worms.  This was the ONLY color my store had in stock.  I bought some and was half-way embarassed to use it.  Now, I make sure I always have some with me.  It's a great color.

I had a bag that sat in my box for about 5 years before i actually used it(no lie)! Nothing was working the day after a big freeze so i put one on with a 1/4oz tungsten weight and a 3/0 EWG hook. I flipped it into pockets in thick lili pad fields and landed a 4lb fish!  ;D

They work well for me rigged weightless on a 3/0 EWG hook, twitched slowly all the way back to the boat.

Bass think it's so d**n ugly they have to kill it before it multiplies   :)

Last year I started using white for the floating worm technique.  Looks like I'll have to pick up some bubblegum as well :)

I was just getting my boat ready for fishing tomorrow and something reminded me of a Trick worm color you should try sometime. Take a bubblegum Trick worm and dip 1/2 into chartreuse soft plastic lure dye. It will give you an orange color for that half. Rig it wacky style and you will basically have two different color finesse worms. Very effective during the prespawn and spawn as you can see it very well in most water colors. I mostly use the unscented dye, but the garlic scented works just as well.

edited, forgot one point, don't prepare more than a couple, if any, ahead of time as the dye will migrate up the worm and also affect adjoining worms in the package. I just do mine on the water.
