hello from chicago....

Featured Replies

this site looks awesome, im glad to have stumbled upon it. a good friend of mine got me a few rapala crank baits and an ugly stik ultralight rod with an abu garcia reel for my birthday in june....i dont think i have to say too much more about that. since then i have added much more to my arsenal and finding it hard to stop. ive only fished a few local lakes and ponds in my area and caught the lunker in my picture in arkansas out of a small(and i mean small) farm pond on my ulra light. now im officially hooked on bass.

if anyone is from my area and can give me a few tips or nice places for bass, feel free to let me know... thanks and im sure i will get my fill here!

Welcome to the forum. I am a Chicago native myself, moved to Az 4 years a go.

I used to fish a few ponds in the south side of chicago, Marquett park, a pond of La grange rd close to I-88, I don't know the name of it but it is a forrest preserve, saw some big fish there but never was able to catch any there.

A place I always did very good was at Starved Rock park, it is about 100 miles west of Chicago. Fox river by Aurora. kankeke river was good also.

My very first fishing trip was to Chain O'lakes, it was a blast.

I even tried salmon snaging at Lincon Park lagoon.

well, technically i live in waukegan, i thought chicago was a better known city to list. i have been to the chain a few times with not much luck. although my friends have been pulling in some decent musky out of lake marie there, i think his biggest so far was 48in. it was huge. ill have to look up starved rock park, sounds interesting. what bait did you do well with there? mostly ive been using rapala crank baits along with some jig heads...i even tried a lindy rig a few times. ive recent gotten in to the hula poppers. ive heard and read big bass and northern like them. thanks for the input.

That's cool. I lived on the south side and also in the West Suburbs, so I don't know a lot of the North suburbs but maybe someone can help out. I am sure there are small ponds in your area, that is a good way to practice without having to drive too far.

I believe the Fox river goes thru Rockford, that may be closer to you also. I used to Catfisf the lower area of the Fox by Aurora.
