Had an AWESOME trip the other day with STKelley. Nasty weather, but great fishing!

Caught my first fish ever on a MattLures Baby Bass (Smallmouth, nonetheless). Now, I'm "hooked" on swimbaits! (pardon the pun)

All in all, I ended up catching 2 on the Baby Bass, and another one on a 6" Huddleston Rainbow Trout, all in the 20" range. Stu caught a ton on the MegaBaits Charlie. We also caught a couple on jerk baits.

A major KUDOS to Matt for his awesome BabyBass!

I'm not much of a photographer, but I just had to get a pic of the pig smallie with the Huddleston in his maw!

For Matt's sake, here is a little better pic of my first smallie with the BabyBass!

Tks for the nice comments.  I was fortunate to try out this little lake with a friend who knew the lake pretty well, so we were able to get on fish most of the day.

I also got a close-up pic of the other smallie with the BB in his jaw, but it is kinda fuzzy and out-of-focus (did I mention that I am not much of a photographer ?!?).

Fortunately, all 3 that I caught on the swimbaits were hooked very solidly (as you can tell, they absolutely annihlated the Huddleston), so even though they fought in typical smallmouth fashion, they did not come unbuttoned.

I just thouht that it was kind of funny to catch a "big" smallie on a BabyBass smallie!

osbornj2 Thanks for posting. I have saved that pic for when I finaly add pics to my site. That is a beatiful fish. Smallies are cool, I want to catch some. We dont have them real close to me but I might just have to travel a little and get some. I think your photo skills are fine, well at least your friends skills are

Matt, thanks so much for the kind words.  And, yes, technically you are correct...that particular photo was the result of Mike's photographic skills!  ;D

Well, if you are serious about persuing the elusive bronzeback, then I'll open an invitation to you to come out this way either in the spring or next fall (I might even take you to this exclusive site that these beauties came from   ).

Last year I was using a storm baby bass 3" swimbait (not same class as the HD BB). I had pretty good success with that.

Last week I was fishing with a buzzbait and had caught 4 and missed 8 others (typical buzzbait ratio), then I thought I picked up a weed, but I could tell it was a small fish. Turned out to be a 4-5" bass, As I was reeling it through the weeds, I BIG wake came after it. I almost slowed down to give it a chance at the lure, but the fish turned away. I brought it in and released the tiny one and threw right back to the same spot - WHAM! a 5 lb bass hooked with the main hook in the top jaw and the trailer hook in it's lower jaw. One of the most exciting catches I have had!

Tells me that the big ones feed on the juvenile bass quite regularly!
