Ok so I just bought my first boat. I bought my deep cycle battery and charged it until it was fully charged. When I hook it up all of my other electronics work (lights, fish finder, aerator) but the trolling motor will not work.

This is the plug that the TM plugs into

When I touch the wires of the TM directly onto the battery it works so I know that the TM itself works.

Here is the wiring that connects to the battery, am I missing something here or something?

There are 3 fuses in a panel on the side of the battery compartment and I checked those, they are all good.

Looks like you're missing an inline fuse. A simple automotive type fuse is all you need. I'm not sure what amp though. Try 10amp and see if that works. If it blows, move up to 15 amp.

Agree. That appears to be a fuse holder in the 3rd pic. You should probably check with the TM manufacturer about what size fuse should go in there.

If you look closely in the background of the third pic (left side) that terminal and crimp look a little iffy. I see a lot of oxidation and broken wire strands. That may have caused that missing in line fuse to blow.

Please do not do this. This is not the way to find out what fuse goes in there. Fuse size is based on wire size. 15 amp for 14 awg

20 amp for 12 awg

30 amp for 10 awg

40 amp for 8 awg

50 amp for 6 awg

If you put the correct fuse for the wire in there and it blows you need to move up in wire size.

The connector in the third picture does need to be replaced.

I got it working. It was missing the fuse. I knew it was something simple. Thanks guys.

Now I know what an inline fuse is lol. Always learning things in this place.
