I've decided to switch out my 25 lb power pro to a mono or fluorocarbon on my rod I traditionally fish plastics with. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with something in the range of 18-20 lb test, but does anybody have any fluorocarbons they particularly like? Ive been a braid guy for a while now, and don't know whats really out there.

There are plenty of good floros out there that would fit your need, but I would recommend 20lb Seagar Invisx...I just fished Lake Fork and my Invisx never broke on me and I was hauling 5-8lb fish out of very think cover. It is a great line, its managable, and very stout!

Why not try braid with a leader? Best way to go.

x2 on the leader. Mono leader for top water and floro for everthing else.

I don't really like braid, I don't like the noise through my guides, I don't like the tip wraps and wind knots. I don't like the idea of a leader, it defeats the purpose of using braid in the first place, you now have a weak spot at that junction and the overall strength of your setup is now compromised. You can't fish braid around rocks. I've broken off with braid around docks, too. The only time I fish braid anymore is flipping grass, hard cover, and punching, and I never use a leader. That's my opinion, and there are people that will disagree with it, I'm alright with that.

I favor 15lb fluorocarbon of higher quality for my plastics rods.I currently have one spooled with Tatsu and one with Toray in 16lb. There's nothing special you have to do, you transition from one type of cover to the next and you're never situationally limited; you don't have to worry about fishing it around rocks, or docks, for instance. You get consistent performance without the braid becoming loose on your reel over time. Fluorocarbon is the best choice for the majority of fishing situations, again my opinion which some will disagree with.

I've used 20# maxima flouro for clear water pitching in the past. It works well, never broke on me.

This year I will probably stick with Braid though for pitching. Me and my fishing buddy caught the same amount of fish while he was using straight braid on his plastic pitching rig as I did in clear water.

So I will still keep a lighter rig for football head jigs and worms/craws with 17-20# flouro. But otherwise I'm sticking with the braid for pitching plastics.

I've heard good things about BPS XPS flouro, Trilene professional flouro, I use the Maxima and the Stren cheap stuff (can't afford $30 a spool everytime!) and it worked fine for what I paid for it.

Yozuri Hybrid is a good choice.

If you'd be willing to share, I'd be interested to know why you've chosen to switch from a braid Back to mono/flouro line. What was it that the braid was or was not doing for you ? Also where'd you find the 25lb power pro ? I've only seen 20lb and 30lb.

btw, I'm a braid with leader believer for most applications.
