Hello From Southern Cali

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

My name is Brian and I'm 42 yrs old living in Redondo Beach, CA and I have been fishing almost all of my life. My late father used to take me and my brother fishing all of the time when we were younger. Most of the time I fished for trout and catfish, but I did catch an occasional bass too. I also did some 3/4 day ocean fishing too out of Paradise Cove and out in Oxnard.

About 4 years ago I was taking my son (he'll be 6 this month) to our local city lake (only 3 miles away from my house) and noticed a fair amount of fisherman there. After talking to some of the regulars I was told the lake was a very good LM bass fishery, but it had a very tough learning curve. The lake also got stocked trout and catfish during their season's, which was good for getting my son into fishing.

The first couple of years I would fish there a couple times a month. I was able to catch some bass here and there mainly on spinnerbaits, spooks, and various crankbaits, but I learned from some of the local regulars, I needed to learn plastics if I were to be successful at our local city lakes.

During this last year I got more serious and been I've only been using two rods, a dropshot rod and a worm rod which I use for Sencos, IKA's, and various creatures. Last month I made the switch to a baitcasting rod paired with a Revo STX for my Sencos, IKA, and Creatures...I love it! After a few hours of dialing it in, I'm loving it and haven't taken out my dropshot rod since. Last week I was able to catch over 5 LMB every time out and I normally only fish a few hours early in the morning. I'd like to fish more, but I still gotta take care of family duties and work too.

Looking forward to participating in the forums!

Brian
