Don Meissner Hydra Lure

Featured Replies

i saw the commercial on tv about Don Meissner's hydra lure. it looked very effective in the commercial, but it was only a commerical after all.

to all of the people thats used or bought this, was it effective? is it worth buying?

Looks like a bionic minnow. Although it might catch fish, there are better swimbaits out there such as Matt lures swimbaits. Here is a link to more swimbaits, be careful with the Storm alot of negativity has came with them. http://www.***.com/swimbaits.html

There is little doubt that it will catch fish. But what do you have to buy? I'm always leery of having to purchase a "fishing system", as opposed to a lure.

Nope. I am with Marty here. I have never puchased a lure or "fishing system" I have seen on a TV commercial. Most of the time those lures are all talk a big game while having no game at all. There are plenty of lures out there that I can spend my money on that are proven to work instead of spending my money on "as seen on TV lures" and having to flush them, and the money I spent on 'em, down the toilet.  ::D

I have puchased other fishing systems that do work, the hydra lure is a old lure. I havent tryed it out, but it not new.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA wow am i the only one who fell into this? lol.well let me tell you,NO!! ive made at least 100 casts with this thing in areas that i regularly catch bass in atleast 1 every 10 minutes.and you wanna know what ive caught??? NOTHING. they are very cheaply made.if i were to rate the action from 1 to 10(1 being"is that a stick in the water?" and 10 being "is that my lure or a real fish?")it would be a solid 2.5   .lol. tight lines!!

I figured if I got these and one of the instant fisherman foldup rods the bass wouldn't stand a chance :D

any lure that has its own infomercial isn't worth buying imho

Way back when, I used to buy differnt lures just to see how they swam and to lear their dynamics. I bought the hydro lures on ebay probably 8-10years ago. When I got them I pool tested them and I thought there were bad. I even fished them a little and then I thought they were worse. Todays paddletails like the original basstrix are Sooooo much better. More realistic, better action, better finishes, and better design. plus you only have to buy 1 pack to try them out instead of the whole system.

Stay away from it....The action ain't as good as they say it is.

I still have them,to remind me to never buy anything gimmicky while drinking and playing online.

It's a waste of money.

I have fished with the Hydra Lure for some years now.  Amazing!! I naturally have caught decdnt bass but when I was catching 5 lb river walleyes... I could not believe it.  The lure has been a "go to" for me for quite some time.  Only trouble is I cannot find any more kits to replace what I have lost.  Any suggestions?

Just steer clear of the infomercial fishing tackle and you'll be better off. Look up the top 100 bass lures and this one won't be on it.

Are you making fun of my Popiel's pocket fisherman?  You ought to see me set the hook with it. :D

The pocket fisherman can't hold a candle to "The Fishing Machine".  Back as a preteen armed with one of these, I was ready to turn pro!!

I would suggest praying, because based on the age of this post and the popularity of that lure, it will likely take nothing short of a miracle to find some  Of course, it never hurts to check eBay from time to time.

I believe  you are spot on.  Have a good day.  Jim
