Buzzbaits

Featured Replies

It's been awhile since I've bought a buzzbait and suddenly have the funds for a few. I'd like to know what you all think is the best buzzbait to get & why. Is there a difference in which buzzbait you get for clear water as compared to murky water? Are some buzzbaits more durable than others after a bass has really smacked it? Let's hear what you have to say.

For clear water, I like the chartreuse shad Booyah Pond Magic 1/8th oz. buzzbait without a trailer hook.  I like this buzzbait because it's small, always more effective for me than a larger buzzbait in clear water, and it works well for all three major species of bass.  Note:  fish it on bigger line like 14 lb. test and you can reel it super slow across the top (works much better than fishing this lure very fast.  I think the fish like the easiest meal.).

For murkier water, I like a larger profile buzzbait, something with a big blade or multiple blades and a trailer hook so that the bait can go slow and so that the fish can locate it with ease in that dark water.  Pretty much any brand will do the job so long as it has the aforementioned qualities.

I personally like the Cavitron.  You can really reel it in slow and it stays on top of the water (it also works well when you burn it).  I have caught many fish this past year with it and it has held up nicely.  That would be my recommendation.

My favorite buzzbaits are Hart's Hartbeater. It's a doublebladed buzz that really creates alot of comotion! With the two blades, you can run it slower while not giving up the larger profile. They work get for me for both largemouths and smallies! Strike King's Double Take has shown some promise as well. In super-clear water the smaller single bladed buzzbaits would probably suit you better. Sorry, my success on the single bladed buzzers is very limited and really don't have a preference there.

Ol Nelle "Broke-back buzzbait" or Terminater with leverage hook. I like them because they run straight and are harder for the fish to throw.

Lunker Lure, old school baby. More you use them, they develop a squeak that drives em ape-%#@*. Ive hung new ones out truck window on the way to the lake. Inexpensive.

My own creation,  LOOSE HOOK BUZZBAIT.

Yep, tie them to the antennae on the truck, if your truck has one.  Also known as "tuning" a Lunker Lure.

I'm reading these and wondering what size buzzbait do you prefer? Does size matter? Also what about colors.? Like on a cloudy day, I would think you would stay with a blk or blk/chart type buzzbaits. Does the color matter when it comes to clear water vs. cloudy/muddy water?

Solid black or white skirt with a gold blade ½ oz

Boogerman Racket Buzz

Booyah Buzzbaits w/clacker

Accent Buzz B 2 Double Buzzer

White and Black are the only two colors I use.

What about single vs. double buzzbaits? It seems most of you are talking about throwing single buzzbaits. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages about throwing double buzzbaits and when would be the best time to throw them?

I like a Hart Ticker buzzbait. It runs true and has a clacker on it for a little extra noise. And I have alot of confidence in it because it's caught alot of fish for me.
