Swim Baits!

Featured Replies

I've been wanting to fish swim baits for a while and I got some Shadilicious 5 inch I think. I bought some swim bait hooks but when I rig it the bait swims sideways or spins. What size hook is appropriate for a 5 inch swim bait?

Ask your GF. :D JK of course.

Too funny!

Blade Runner tackle hollow body bait inserts work great.

You are probably going to want a 5/0 with at least 1/4 oz weight

Thanks!

this is jmo, but I've found the Shadilicious to be less then productive, I've tried various hooks, what worked the best for that bait was an Owner Beast, in 6/0, yea its a big hook but the weight will act as a keel and keep the fish from leaning from side to side, they will catch fish, but it was slow going for me. If its swimbaits your after, like paddle tails then take a look Skinny Dippers, they catch fish, if you want a more swimbait orientated bait look into some Mattlures or Talons in their paddles.

get money minnows, or lake fork shads, you wont be disappointed, i especially like to throw a soft swimbait in lilly pads, but shhhhh its a secret lol

I've been killing the smallies on the Shadilicious 5.5" hollow bellies. Using a 1/4 oz. 5/0 swimbait hooks works just fine. Remember, with these hollow bellies, S-L-O-W is better! You want it moving just enough to get action in the center of the bait. And keep it close to the bottom as well.

I just picked up a pack of the Luck "E" Strike bass magic swim baits, and the berkley havoc grass pigs. Anyone used these two brands of plastic swim baits?

I use the Luck "E" strike swimbaits a lot, both on a swimbait hook and on a scrounger head. I've had really good luck with them but don't have anything to compare them to really since I haven't tried any other brands.
