P-Line Flouroclear Knot Slippage

Featured Replies

Went out for a couple of trips this weekend and 3 times on hooksets had my Palomar knot slip leaving 3 fish with 4/0 gammys swimming around in the lake. I truly love how this line performs in terms of strength, abrasion resistance, and stretch. The only problem is that after a few fish, the knot slips. I wet my knots before snugging down and never had this problem w/ berkly big game mono or PP braid.

Is this slippage due to the knot or line? Or my laziness to not re-tie after each fish? I'm currently using 12lb on baitcasting gear btw.

You should always check your line after each fish caught or hooked... If your tying the palomar correctly I doubt its pulling out.

I use Pline 20# floroclear offshore, have caught kingfish to shark, 10#-200# fish, line and knots hold perfectly. I attach my leaders via swivels using a clinch or improved clinch, seldom have the need to retie unless cutoff and that's the leader not the line. Try singeing the tag line with a bic, putting a bead on it, helps in preventing pull thru, works well on braid too. Any knot tied properly will hold, personally I never saw the need for a palomar knot, I use clinch and loop knot.........that's it.

had the same problem with a mono line. I decided to stop wetting the knot. I think the water is acting as a lubricant, causing the knot to slip. After the change, the increase friction kept the knot in place. I was using improved clinch knot

Glad it worked Zeny, I don't wet the lighter lines, only the heavier ones.

How close are you clipping your tag end? I wouldn't tie floro without wetting it first because the friction will heat the line up and can damage it. If you clip the tag end super close if it does slip a little it may be causing your problem. Try leaving 1/4-1/2 inch of tag for a safety net to see if that makes a difference, the fish won't notice a thing.

I had 20 lb test fluoroclear on my swimbait set-up for a couple of months. Double clinch or ordinary clinch, always generously lubricated while tying, worked perfectly. Never had a knot slippage.

I have since moved to Yo-Zuri hybrid though, since that P-Line had too much stretch for my liking.
