Upgrading my finesse jig rod from a Vendetta to a Dobyns Savvy.

Would the Savvy SS693SF be a good rod for throwing finesse jigs 1/8-1/4 oz.

I fish mainly clear rocky lakes with little vegatation.

Hey, I had a Powell spinning rod with an XF tip for those little finesse jigs and plastics. Decided to sell it and get a Dobyns. I bought the 703SF. I didn't like the Savvy at all for the techniques I mentioned, although it handled spinnerbaits pretty well. I couldn't feel a thing with that Dobyns. Whether it was rock, or weeds, or a bite, all I got was a mushy feeling. I guess I was too used to the XF tip on the Powell. Or maybe the particular Dobyns rod I got was a dud. Might have been the latter, 'cause people praise the Savvy series. Sent back the Dobyns and bought the same exact Powell Max I sold. Lost about 40 bucks in the deal.

That's just my "opinion" of course. Take it for whatever it's worth.

Yeah that combo is nasty man. My MH is good for 1/4-3/8 too.

It's a poor copy, at best. The XF JMS rod is far softer than the Cumara, in all actuality it ranks a moderate fast by comparison. Decent rod, but not in the same ballgame, let alone field.

Yeah, the tip is really soft, but it still has the extra fast point of bending. Its too soft for my liking but I can deal with it.

But when I said copy I meant the looks, balance, etc. I've never fished a Cumara but from the carpet test they felt on par with each other, the Cumara being just a touch better. I wasn't saying the blank power and action were similar, which I think you thought I was portraying.

Take a look at Dobyns Champion 683C, it might be just

what you are looking for. Mine is saddled up with a CH50MG

spooled with #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Light, crisp and strong.

I believe he's looking for a spinning rod (693SF is a spinning rod), not a casting set-up. Just something to keep in mind before we swamp him with suggestions on rods and reels.

Clary man quit with the compromises! Get something nice that you actually like! Sell that BPS junk on here and get a Dobyns!

I ordered the Savvy this weekend while it was on sale so I'll try it and let y'all know what I think. Kinda going at it blind, this will be my first Dobyns. Should be here this week.

I think a 3 power rod should work fine for what you're fishing, and whatever length suits you the best. Unfortunately I don't own any Savvy spinning rods, but if they're anything like the casting lineup you should be very happy. I've heard mixed reviews about the Savvy spinning rods, but the Champion 702sf that I have is a GREAT rod, and from all of my Dobyns' experiences I can't imagine they would be "bad" rods.

As for the Savvy sensitivity, unless there's a major difference between the spinning/casting blanks, my SS734c is as (if not more) sensitive than a Veritas, Carbonlite, Crucial and any other rod I've used in a similar price range.

Wish I could give a report but UPS broke my rod. They tore the tube clean into and taped it back, bent two guides and broke them loose from the pole.

The dealer said they would have to wait on UPS to say they were going to pay for them before they ship me another. Does that sound right?

When UPS broke a rod I ordered, TW made them pick up the damaged rod from my apartment the next day, and sent out a replacement within a couple of days. I don't know about other "dealers".
