Frog Fishing

Featured Replies

Whenever I frog fish my frog always flips belly up. I have adjusted the hook and have tried different rigs. Does any one else have this problem, how to correct it?

That happens to me once in a while. I just give the line a jerk and it'll

usually flip over on it's belly. :(

Are you talking about frogs or toads? Frogs like Spro's Bronze Eye Frog or toads like Strike King's Rage Tail Toad. Haven't had any problems with my Spro frog rollig over on me. When I fish the Rage Tail Toad and see that it rolls on me I pause it for a second or two and it will right itself, if it doesn't then that means I don't have the hook centered in the bait!  :(

try a bigger hook,5/0,also one with a small weight in the front like a keel.and keep your rod tip high to prevent roll overs, also try slowing your retrieve down and use suttle jerks over pads and slop if your buzzing it in then slow it down a lil or give it random jerks to try and work out the line twists,if all else fails try adding a swivel leader to your line.

I don't have that problem with my spros or scum frogs.

For the swimming frogs, use the Gammy G-Mag Oversize hook. No extra weight is needed with that hook to keep the frog up-right. Its the top frog and hook in the picture. Don't put the hook bend inside the frog, just put the bend between the legs and skin hook the point in the back.

Trying to rig those frog hooks from tru tungsten is very difficult to be honest not my favorite hook. I really just try to keel the frog on a 5\0 hook and it doesnt roll as much .   The owner twist locks are great also for this.
