Found Pro Qualifier

Featured Replies

I was fishing with a buddy the other day and found a BPS PQ attached to half of a broken rod. It was covered in mud and I'm sure there is tons of mud inside as well. Oddly enough there has been nu rust, so I'm thinking if I can take it apart, I might be able to clean it, grease it, and cross my fingers and make it work. The problem is I don't know how to get the d**n thing apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

PondBoss

first things first....round or low profile?

low profile it's a PQX10HB High Speed reel

for the palm side, press the logo and turn. for the crank side, take off the handle and remove the screws. I've not taken one apart before so there may be a hidden switch somewhere. the cross bar will unscrew to allow the palm side to swing away

ok thanks, I've taken out the screws already (they came out very easily) they looked brand new. I'm hoping it's not as bad as it probably is. lol

Any ideas on who I could send it to?

Talk to Delaware Valley Tackle. Feed a sponsor, and a darned reputable business, your business.

Thanks for mentioning Delaware Tackle, I had looked at their site the other day and totally forgot about them doing reel work. Heck I might be able to get it all taken care of for less than $30 including shipping. :)

I have heard the PQ is extremely difficult to take apart and get it back together again. Not that you would be out much since you found the reel but getting a good reel for $30 I don't see where you would go wrong and it would save you the headache of trying to put it back together.

I know I'm certainly having difficulty taking it apart. I think there is mud caked up against the release button on the side, so I can't get either cover off. :(

The newer PQ's don't use the BPS logo as a button - you need to pull the bar that runs across the top out, which then releases the side plate. It's the same as the Revo only the Revo's bar you screw/unscrew. The ProQ bar is spring tensioned.
