spray painting your weights

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if anyone out there paints there bullet weights a certain color to match the plastic they are fishing with. If so what exactly do you use?

Thanks,

Vinny

I tried painting mine with a Sharpie once and it didn't go so well! Plus, i think the smell of paints could repel the fish or cause it to not hold on long enough to detect the bite. And even pollute the waters you fish. Painted weights are relatively cheap and come in popular colors so i would just do that. I don't think it matters anyways, maybe in ultra clear water. Or you can use this stuff from BPS.

I think they make a paint you can dip the weights in.You could probably find it somewhere they sell jig making supply's.

sorry didn't see that link, thats the stuff  :(

I paint mine with whatever black or dark brown paint I've got, usually Krylon or some decent brand.  Don't think you need any special kind of paint.  You usually lose them before the paint comes off anyway.

You know, I never did paint mine. I used a sharpie once, but like mentioned before, it didnt turn out well. Usually I'll get pre painted ones like Tru-Tungsten.

If ur using lead weights u can put um in coke or pepsi  the chemical(lol) reaction will dull them really well

I have been painting mime for about 2 years now. I have better luck with painted ones. I use blue, maroon, and moss green. I spray them with 99¢ paint from wal mart after that dries I put a coat of 2 part epoxy use a brush that u can throw away when you are done. sometimes I put glitter in with the epoxy to match whatever bait I'm useing. that has been working for me. u should try that.

You are saying you catch more fish on painted weights than with reg ol lead color? I don't see how that would make the slighted difference to the fish. :-?

if the weight blends in with the plastic you are using of course it will increase your chances of landing fish bc it will look more realistic

It just looks cooler to have a painted weight.  Who cares what the fish thinks - it's about ME and MY needs!   :(
