But last year's Citica appears to be this years Curado. I just can't understand why after all these years of having the hands down "best" reel in that category they would make it a "less" quality product...

Yep, just read that Shimano wanted the Chronarch to be the new Curado. Weird, but it works. Maybe the D7 didn't sell well.

There are a lot of die hard Curado B guys that paid around $120 for one of the best reels made. Ever. I think Shimano wants that status back.

I'm hoping the answer to this question is a no brainer, but I'll ask it anyways -- what is shimano going to for its lifetime warranty on it's old model rods? I'm assuming that the new rod style will be the replacement? Or is shimano going to maintain a warehouse of the old line of rods for replacements?

I have a number of crucials and clarus's that i picked up specifically because I'm tough on equipment, and there "limited" lifetime warranty in the past had been hassle free to provide me with a new rod. I surely hope their need to provide a split grip rod for under 100 doesn't bite me in the ***

Generally if they have stock, you'll be replaced with the same product. Once they no longer have the old style, you'll receive the most comparable item. Usually that is the current years model.

I'll have to stick to my six Mid 90's Calcuttas and three Greenie 200's. I still don't think Shimano has ever outdone any of those reels, except maybe a mid 90's Chronarch. JMO

The Curado G is based on the Caenan platform. If you combine it with being specced like the Citica E; it feels like a downgrade to many, despite how it may be worded. The Curado e has been rebadged and repainted as the Chronarch e, which also feels like a downgrade when you consider the Chronarch D's position in Shimano's previous lineup. So, it seems understandable to me that people are unhappy with the apparent downgrades, at least until they get used to the notion that in order to get the same quality that they are used to, they are now buying the Chronarch E instead of the Curado E. When this happenes, then everyone will be happy again with their Shimanos. I am sure there is also some disappointment that there were no big advancements announced at this year's iCast.

Then there is also an apparent hole in the lineup between the Chronarch E and the Core...

It seems like the new rods are a very competitive offering. Although I am a little dissapointed that my 6 Cumara's will no longer stand out .The new reels however are overall disappointing. I have not used the new reels and will save my final opinion for when I do. In todays economy everything goes up in price and unfortunately fishing equipment is no exception. It looks like you are now receiving a Curado for 20 dollars more. Look at how much a gallon of milk has gone up over the last 5 years and this price increase won't seem so harsh!

Same styling as Caenan, yes, but the Caenan is crap from the start. Don't even bother to compare them. Graphite frame, junk bearings...the list goes on. Curado still has septon grips and almost a retro blocky kind of feel. I'm biting my tongue until I get them in hand. My favorite reels are my older Curado reels. I'm sure the Chronarch will be just fine, too.

I know I do, without even having to hold one. I'm not familiar with the frame they'll be using now, so we'll have to see. It's far easier than having to do a gear swap though. Having the options is a big bonus in my eyes.

Having gotten a Cumara a little while back, I'm very dissapointed that they changed all the rods around. I should have waited and saved $30 and just gotten a Crucial.

Sucks for die-hard Shimano fans. All the more reason to go to Daiwa, whose higher end offerings blow Shimano's out of the water.

I am a Shimano diehard and I will not be buying this reel(maybe I will pick one up on clearance in a few years). It bothers me that they downgraded Chronarch into a Curado E remake. The Chronarch is supposed to represent a touch of class. Why not just keep the current Chronarch and release an MG version? People loved the Chronarch MGs! They really seemed to miss the mark similar to when they released the Curado D (silver ones). Come on Shimano I expect better.
