St. Croix Lt "big Gulp"

Any of you guys have a St. Croix Legend Tournament Big Gulp? I'm considering build that blank up as a c-rig, small swimbait and flippin rod. Just looking for any specific feedback you might have, whether it's how you like it and what you use it for.

Thanks,

keith

For a carolina rod I would go with the 7'9" HF, just cause your going to want a little stiffer tip when dragging the bottom. You might want to check out the actual Carolina rod they have in the line, too. Also, St. croix blanks are a bit stiffer than everyone elses, so a heavy is going to be an extra heavy, a medium is going to be a med. heavy and so on. However, so I don't sound retarded, when I say that they are stiffer blanks I don't mean that they have stiffer actions, their actions are usually right on. I have an Avid and LTB "teaser," Love them both, the technique specific rods like the teaser seem to do what they were made to do and then some. Hope this helps.

Don't know about the 4C79HF recommendation as a C-rig rod. I have one I use for big baits - 2-5 oz - and it's a beast. Light, easy to use, but a beast. My 1st fish was an 8 lb. northern pike, and I literally turned it's head and lifted it out of 8' of water, LOL.

I've played with the Big Gulp, it should be fine for what you want. This rod would be the one to replace my Deep South XXX flipping stick. I like a mod/mod-fast action for that as well. You get into the full muscle flex of the rod better than in a faster action. Great for lift and separate hooksets. ;)

I bought this rod and I returned it, it is a light rod but like any other rod at that length its very tip heavy and for flipping all day I found it uncomfortable- instead I picked up a 7'5 loomis rod for a little bit more, have you used a rod that length before?
