Not sure how many people might bash them but eagle claw lazer sharp in 2/0 for 5" senkos worked great yesterday for me. didnt miss a fish. $1.99 a pack for 5 at dicks sporting goods.

I was using the Gama Octopus yesterday and they were working great! I'll pick up a pack of Lazers next since I'm running out.

I use Eagle Claw hooks for Texas rigs, but I always use weedless wacky hooks. Otherwise I'm constantly reeling in weeds.

lazer sharp works for me. havent lost a fish and i like the price. get two packs for the price of almost one pack of gamakatsu hooks. i usually let my dad use some and he never gives back.

The Eagle Claw and the Gamakatsu are both great hooks..i guess its just a personal preference over brand names.

It isn't personal preference at all. Compare the point and the metals just once and you'll never look back. If you want a quality hook go Gamakatsu or Owner. If you want to pinch pennies, miss fish, and break hooks, feel free to use cheap hooks.

Agree with Hooligan, we are not arguing over brass tacks here, there is a massive difference between the top of the line hooks in Owner and Gammie, and eagle claw, the top 2 are carbon steel that is tempered, have stronger points, and resist bending and tweaking. Eagle Claws are surgical steel wire that is soft and bends easily, the points are thick and not near as sharp and roll easily due to the softer steel, I may be wrong on this because I am going from jig hook experience but most of there hooks are not tempered either which makes them even softer yet. The hook is one of the most important parts of the rig, the only thing that is even close is line, but without a good strong, sharp hook your landing percentage goes way down. I know you said you never miss a fish but the one time you do its not going to be a small one.

I have stayed away from eagle claw from experiences as a kid. I've seen a few threads on various forums about how much they've improved though. I believe eagle claw is the parent company of, or owned by the same company, as trokar and the hooks are the same/similar. Have heard awful stories about trokar so maybe it's true I plan on picking up a pack or two just to see if anything has changed in 10yrs.

1/0 Owner Wacky Hooks are generally what I use just because they were available locally. I have seen a few bend when snagged on 10-12lb line...but no issues on fish so far. Use Gamas almost exclusively otherwise but have tried the octopus and splitshot and wasn't too happy. Their wicked wacky hook hasn't had good reviews and $5/3pk is pricey. I may try a pack of finesse wide gaps as a last shot.

My personal experience with eagle claws and bass wasn't a good one. I refuse to use em' for bass fishing. Owner's or gamakatsu only for me.I won't even use trokar.

I'll use eagle claws for panfish and bluegills....but that's all I'll use em' for.
