Just Got A New Rod And Reel Is This A Good Combo?

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I'm new to bass fishing only a few months under my belt. I been using a bps $35 rod and reel combo for the last few months catching bass here and there on it. My wife surprised me last night and came home with a new setup for me. She went to bps and bought me a Carbonlite 7" power med auction fast 4-12lb rod, with a Shimano Stradic c14 2500F. Its super light and feels waaaaaaay better than my old combo I was using. I use plastic worms and mainly setup drop shots, t-rigged and carolina rigging. My question is would this be a good setup for what I'm doing? Do these two go together as a good combo? Could I use top waters or jigs with this setup? Thanks in advance for any input

It is way better than your old combo.Follow the weight rating on the rod.

I tend to throw carolina rigs & jigs on a MH or Heavy.Usually on a baitcaster.

Drop shot,Light T-rigged plastics and top water poppers work great.

It's all I carry on most of my days fishing a 7' medium/fast rod with a 2000 or 2500 reel.

That is a very nice setup and will work well for you. I would prefer a MH that should work fairly well for you.

Yes, especially the reel!

Great reel ,good rod but you should trade it in for a med-hvy rod if your wife wouldn't get too upset. B)

I think you will be fine with that combo. The reel gets good reviews here, and the Carbonlite rods are decent rods for the money. I have one that I use regularly. What line you use on the reel will make a difference. I would use 8lb copoly or mono. A super line will give you a little more options, but I am no fan.

Add a MH down the road and you will have most of the bass fishing bases covered. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

good thing your wife knows a lot more about good combo B)
