I have broken down and ordered my first Shimano reel. I ordered a Citica 200e today. I have used every brand but Shimano. I hate going with the crowd and always am out to find something better, but this deal was to good to pass up. I currently have been using Okuma Cayennes, but they are now discontinued. They are still working fine, but I am tired of reading how good Shimano is.

Good for you. You might be wondering why you took so long.

Normally I like to be different from the crowd too, but in this case, I use Shimano products because they work, and are a great value; not particularly to be in a posse. That is coincidental. I think you will also find that to be true of your new Shimano reel.

I like shimano too, but there is nothing wrong with the cayennes. I have a couple of them and like them.

You'll like the citica also. IMO if they made a high speed citica I'd pick up one instead of paying the extra $ for the curado. I know the curado might be a little better, but not that much.

Haven't "used every reel but Shimano", but I couldn't pass up the recent deal on the 51E for $98. My first Shimano, too. Now have a Chronarch 100B to go with it. Been wanting to see for myself if they are that much better than my Daiwas. Kind of doubt it. If they perform 'good as', then I will be satisfied.

I'm not in the Shimano posse, but at the price the "Older" models are now selling at you can't go wrong. Great deals out there now on the old models.

Many times it's crowded for a good reason.

The blowout prices make this a perfect time to grab a Shimano reel especially the Curado. If you can find one of the $98 sales that's about 1/2 price of the new Chronarch with the same specs.

Dicks sporting goods has a huge sale all clearance items ending in .97 or .93 take an additional 50% off I just nabbed a citica 200e for 44.98 its also my first shimano baitcaster. Should look nice laying next to my revo now to decide what to used it for

You will be thrilled basscats and clayton86 with your purchase. I've never fished with anything besides Shimano. There fishing equipment is superior to all other, GREAT BUY!

Ranger if you never fished anything but SHEMANO how can you tell its superior? Fish a high end Daiwa and then come tell us that same statement. I respect Shimanos gear and they make awesome reels for sure but us Daiwa guys get the cream of the crop.

I've fished with lots of different reels and got to play with every brand quite a bit when I worked at Cabela's. I just feel I get the best performance and value for my dollar with Shimano. That was several years ago and it seems that several companies are very good options now that may not have been then. I really like the Revos and have a couple, along with a Diawa, a Quantum, a few Okumas, and a BPS reel. All of them work well but I have never been disappointed by one of my Shimanos.

I agree, in the $100-$200 range Shimano is the best value, but once you get up to say, $250, it's Daiwa all the way.

First of all it should be better because it cost over $100 more than the curado. Second I have a zillion and my patriarch XT's make my zillion look like a ten dollar reel.

I know, I'm not saying that a $400 daiwa is only worth $200. I was definitely exaggerating a little but I honestly feel somewhere in the price tag is a " we're daiwa and you'll pay for it mark up".

Lol and if you fish Shimano you get a reel that is Re-branded painted has a bearing taken out of it and called the next higher model... I guess all you gotta do is paint it white and black and call it a step up even tho you took a bearing out of it and charge more now thats a joke!

I guess they didnt make enough off the tooling of the Citica and curado E's so they updated the bread and butter reels and down graded a highly sought after line of reels by making it a 1 less bearing painted white n black Curado. and then taking the tooling for another reel and building a ALUM frame and calling it a Citica and curdo, even tho all the tooling is a Ceanne.

Daiwa will limited edition a reel or super tune it and release it for sell but they wont paint a Aggrest and call it a Zillion... or dress a Zillion up and call it a Steez.... Shimano is funny, I used to fish a lot of Loomis rods Pre Shimano I havent bought a Loomis rod other then 2 NRX's and sold off one just to try them because Shimano owns them now and they just arent a Loomis anymore.

I agree with this as well, Daiwas are high end reels and if you buy a cheap one you get a cheap one... but a good one get a good one.... buy a great one get a great one... All priced accordingly

Don't get me wrong, if I wanted a $100 reel I would get a Citica 200e. Not the new Caenan/Citica crap, though. I had an E7, liked the Citica WAY better.

But I really prefer to fish at least a Zillion or better now. They're so smooth!
