Sluggo Question

Featured Replies

I really like the eratic action of the sluggo. My question is: if I add weight to the hook, or body to get the bait deeper, will it kill the action too much?

Lunker City makes a nail weight just for the Sluggo but it does kill some of the action. You might try putting one on a scrounger head or a belly weighted hook. Won't be the same action but you can fish it deeper and I'm sure you'll catch fish. Thread one on an 1/8oz darter jighead and you might get a more erratic action if that's what you're looking for.

I've actually thrown the Sluggo on a splitshot rig.

It gets the bait down and still lets it do its thing.

The splits rig works well so do the darter heads. I would suggest revenge darter heads they have the best detail I've seen and they work good.

Try this: 12" - 18" leader with a swivel, no weight.

A nail through the head, between the hook eye and the and where you come back through with the barb wont affect the action that much. A 1" finish nail works well. Also a 4" Sluggo on a light weight Carolina Rig can be deadly.
