Fat Ika Convert.

While going thru my 500 lbs of plastics deciding which to keep I found a bag of Fat Ikas, which I have never used. Due to R.W's posts on these (and everyone else's) I put them in my bag. After going 0 for 10 on docks with Senkos/Dingers, I tied one on backwards and got a keeper under the 3rd dock. Kept going and got 4 more and had a nice one wrap me around a post and come off. Perfect skipping bait with that slow near horizontal fall, away from the cast. I'm hooked!

Kind of look like a Sea Anemone that you see on the Discovery Channel when you twitch them up but the fall is killer.

If you haven't tried these, give 'em a shot. Don't look like much but man do they work!

What took you so long?

#1 soft plastic in still water less than 12' deep.

In moving water the action of the Fat Ika is negated

making GYCB Senkos, Hula Grubs, Single Tail Grubs

or 3 1/2" Gitzits better options.

Out of curiosity, what's the #1 in water deeper than 12'?

Also - what is your rigging preference for single tailed grubs and corresponding presentations (for smallies)?

You ever try rigging them forward and working it a little faster in heavy current? It works great.

Gitzit (tubes). Deeper water requires weight.

Regarding rigging grubs, 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig head

depending on the current.

Last night was the first time ever that a Fat Ika did not produce one fish, not one.  I fished it rigged backwards and forwards with and without weight in every color I had nothing.  Not a bite.  I was stumped.  Switched to a YUM Tube with a Owner tube hook and bam 5 fish within about 45 minutes.

I am still puzzled, never ever caught a fish on a tube, but lots of luck with the Fat Ika.  Even threw the same colors.  Black and blue.

Explain that one please and oh the water was dead calm and smooth and it was in the evening.

Later, ;)
