10' Anaconda cut down

Featured Replies

Well I have the smaller and the huge 10" RageTail Anaconda's and cant be more amazed with the amount of action and natural look that these things provide.

I am using 5/0 wide gap hooks and to me...on those large Ana's, the hook wasnt far enough back on the bait and I would get reeeeeally aggressive bites but no hook sets.

What I have done is cut down the body of the worm. There is an area in the middle of the worm's body like a crease where I have cut it down. The hook now sits right toward the back of the bait's tail and this thing looks incredible now. Watched the action in the water and it looks like one huge rage'in snake worm beast animal. I would suggest giving this a go. I also seemed to get more bites with doing this that before right outta the box.

I just use the Owner 7/0 hooks on the 10' anaconda and they work fine.

I've fished 10"+ worms since the early 90s, and a 5/0 hook has worked fine for me.  With the Anaconda on a standard t-rig, I am using a 5/0 Owner Wide Gap Plus.  I've even hooked a few dinks with them.  For swimming the bait, I use a 6/0 weighted Owner Beast.  No problem with dinks there as well.  I suspect your "short bites" and misses have more to do with the wrong species of fish....i.e. blue gills and sunnies.

    Good idea.

pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the snap swivel?

I fish with 1 rod and reel on my outings and that allows me to switch baits quickly. I know i know... I am in the proccess of getting 2 more combo's. One with braid for jigs, and another for spinners, cranks, and topwaters.

By the time you can open the swivel, slide one bait off, slide another one on and close it I can have one tied and already be casting it ;D

Just poking fun at you man ;)

I have taken a broken up annie and cut it down like you described and they do in fact look killer in the water. I won't do it to my brand new ones though. If I throw a worm like that I am not worried about how many bites I get as I am what kind of quality I get.

;) I have done that same thing with the Annie and your right, it works.....Also let's us use the worm when the head or tail gets worn out   WTG
