I currently run GY Marathons on my trailer and have now had a 2nd tire that has warped on me and am fed up with GY. I am not sure what causes this to happen, but it seems odd that it has now happened on a 2nd tire in only 4 years. The boat/trailer gets used weekly so it isn't from sitting around. I have been trying to find some reviews on other brands and have seen a lot about Carlisle having issues in many cases as well.

Not sure what else is available....has anyone heard of Maxxis, no anything about them or have any other thoughts?

Where were the Marathons made?

Do a search, and you'll find you can also run light truck tires on boat trailers. They'll probably be less expensive, and last longer.

I've seen some posts that claim they only get ten thousand or so miles out of their trailer tires. I've put over 12,000 on my rig in the past two years and the tires look like new.

I'd suggest that if you are experiencing a lot of wear on your tires, take your trailer to a shop where they can make sure the axle is square to the frame and straighten or replace any bent axle components.

Tires usually wear because they are scrubbing rather than rolling. On trailers that usually is the result of the wheels toeing in or out. Incorrect camber will wear the inner or outer edges.

I've had a set of Maxxis for two seasons now. Seem to be holding up well and are holding air really well.

I recently purchased a set of Carlisle tires. So far, so good. They are rated very highly on Consumer reports. My last set of GY Marathons bulged out and I was lucky not to have a blowout. There was a huge story recently about GY marathons and blowouts. I believe they were tires manufactured out of the country.

The country of origin on the sidewall. The marathons built in the US & Australia are ok. Stay away from all china bombs.

Maxxis is what most RVers rave about, they have great reviews. I have US made Marathons with no issues, but as Dwight stated the China ones have given Marathon tires a bad reputation.

Trailer tires usually fail because you are overloading them on weight, or your tires aren't inflated correctly. Tire pressure varies a lot with the air temperature and altitude, so check it often. There is a lot more information about boat trailer tire safety on this blog: http://www.boattrailertires.com/blog/. Another thing to remember, too, is that when one tire blows, the stress on the other tires increases greatly while you are trying to get off the road; and there is a good chance that they were weakened by previous blowouts.

I use michelin light truck tires and have no problems. I pull it 50-100 miles per weekend and 4-5 hundred miles several times per year.

I have Marathons on my trailer. They are two years old now and they still look good, but I haven't checked the country of origin.
