I LOVE jerky but is is kinda pricey and was lookin into making my own. I dont have a dehydrater but i saw this video:

Do you need to cook it or anything in order to eat it? Im just worried about bacteria and what not.

Or would I be better off buying a dehydrator. If so, could anybody point in the direction of a good one?

I make venison jerky I got my dehydrator for xmas last year from my wife it was like 79.99 at gander its the round one u can add trays to I can't remember the name its like open trail or open country. It works good iv made jerky, fruit chips, fruit roll ups out of apple sauce. Its a good starting point I think I love mine just not the heat it puts out though nice on cold winter nights but not in this summer heat kinda like baking on a hot day lol.

Errrr,I don't think I'm cooking anything with house filters. That doesn't even look safe to eat.

Me being the sanitation nazi I am, I would never eat anything cooked that way, or serve anything cooked that way. That is SOOO un-sanitary.

The dehydrator is definetly something worth buying. I know theyre a little pricey buy think of all the money you will be saving succesfully making your own jerky

It definately would work but I don't think I would recommend preparing jerky that way unless I was on an episode of Dual Survival.

1. Filters are not sanitary or food service approved

2. He has the fan blowing from the ground up on his patio?? Hello bugs, oil, gas etc.

3. The carbon or fiberglass fibers that are sticking to that meat are going to give it a nice flavor

Google how to make jerky in the oven. I've never made it this way but I have a buddy that used to make it all the time that way. I always make mine in a dehydrator. I got lucky 2-3 years back and found a 4 tray Ron Popeil dehydrator at Big Lots for around $15.00. I've seen them at Wal-Mart in the past for a decent price also.

I forgot to mention that you can use just about any type of meat. I use london broils because they are cheap. My wife works at a store that sells them for around $3.00 a pound.
