I only use bass gears for the Surf, usually 6'6" to 7' rod setup for targetting halibut. I use the following lures for them:

1. Luckycraft Flash Minnow 110 in metallic sardine pattern - for moderate to a tad rough swell. Other jerkbait I use ( Ima Sasuke 120, Luckycraft FM 130 MR )

2. 3" Big Hammer swimbait in keylime, sexy smelt amd seawolf pattern rigged on 1/4 Oz leadhead - for calm water.

3. 3/4 Kastmaster in Chrome - For rough swell.

Good luck!

What do you catch with the flash minnow other than halibut? How many halibuts do u catch on avg a trip?

nice flatty those big hammers kill them! thats almost the only lure i use for salt its so versatile and catches such a variety of fish. nice work keep it up!

Incidental catch on LC Flash Minnow are:

Corbina

Yellow fin croaker

Barb surf perch

Calico

Cabezon

White Sea Bass

and any thing that swims in the water.

90% of my catch is halibut although I get skunk most of the time and that what's keep me from targeting halibut. An average of one or two for an ok days and mostly shorts ones below 22". A good day would be one legal (22") and around 5 -6 short ones.

You need to learn how to read the water to be consistent but there would still be a lot of skunk days.

See you in the sand.

Yes, I use the white 5" fluke for drop shooting on deeper waters like the harbors and bays pretty effective although I get a lot more short halibuts before I can get a legal size.

Whats around your neck in the picture with the bass

It's a flexible flashlight that you can wear around your neck, got from costco. I usually fish the local parks early in the gray and needed some light for changing lures. I feel its better than those clips on the cap or those head gear flash lights.

Man that guitar fish is weird looking.
