First Time Using A Rage Tail Product

Featured Replies

I had never used any Rage products up untill the other night. No real reason I hadn't, just never got it in my head to buy any. I took a Rage Toad my buddy left in the truck a few months back and decided to throw it as I was getting tired of my Zoom Horny toads not running straight. I was immediately impressed with how they ran, and their staying upright with an unweighted 5/0 straight shank worm hook.

Within ten min I had a fish on, within 10 min I had a fish on the bank with me. From about 30 min before sundown and the point I headed to the house I pulled in several fish and really enjoyed how quick the RT came up on plane as compared to several other similar toads Ive delt with. Only quit fishing because it got so tore up and I didnt have but that one.

Looking forward to getting some other Rage Tail products!

I've never used one either, like you, no real reason. I have used most others out there. Surprised you use a straight shank worm hook, but if it's working for you, can't argue with that. I'll pick some up and give them a shot, like I need more plastics.

I use to use EWG, but had real bad hook up ratios. and before anyone re-teaches me I am sure to wait to feel the weight of the fish before I set. Switched to straight shank and have had a much better ratio. Just gatta be sure to keep heavy pressure on em once they get stuck.

Glad you like'em and here's a link to a rigging illustration with a popular hook choice. It will probably show you that your style of rigging is correct, which is why you get the best results each time http://www.ragetail.com/ragetailtoad.html :D

Try the other Rage products too! They are the bomb...I love the craw and lobster, toad, and anaconda. If I have a pole rigged with a T-Rig, you can bet it will be a Rage Tail.

I know the rage products have some great qualities and do catch fish, I just can't afford to go through three packs of rage craws (when I am smacking em :) ) when pacas are half the price and don't see a difference in hook ups.

What does this have to do with NGaHB trying a Rage toad for the first time?

@ NGaHB, glad to hear you gave the toad a try and had good luck with it. Using a straight shank hook is something I haven't tried but, seems like it could make a difference in hook-ups due to hook point angle, just not as weedless. Thanks for including that info in your post. :)

Nothing. Netbait doesn't even make a toad like the Ragetail bait.

Congrats on the outing and your success with a new bait. :D I like the toad too but I also LOVE the shad. It displaces alot of water. I also would recommend trying out the eeliminator. You can use it as a topwater for a little bit more a subtle presentation on top or c-rig it, Whichever way you decide to throw it you might want to dip the tail in a little bit of jj's. Definitely one of favorite Rage Tail products, I highly recommend it. :D

I was getting a little off topic, but the point of my post was that the reason why a lot of people have yet to try the rage line is the price...it scares people away.

But congrats on the success!

They're on sale for $4/pack constantly at Dick's. How much are the jigs you promote? And how many people throw real GYCB Senkos? What about lucky craft?

Yeah, if you're whacking them, then chances are you can throw whatever you want. But there are days when a certain bait will out fish all others. To the off topic point about craws....the Ragetail Craw and the Paca Craw are two TOTALLY different baits. Paca Craws claws are about 100x more delicate than just about every other bait. You can't beat that hollow tube body, though, when bass are picky for that.

I have used both Ragetail Craw and Paca Craw, and I would have to agree they are different baits altogether. I like Paca Craws on rip rap or shell beds, rocky terrain. I like the more realistic feel to the Paca Craw, I bounce it along very slowly. The Ragetail, I move that along faster and will use that in many different conditions. Just my two cents...

Unfortunately, I never see those deals at Dicks or else I would throw rage a lot more...again all I was saying was that a lot of people, sales aside, cannot justify spending $6 a pack of plastics.

You wouldn't see Big O or any of his pro staffers posting negatively about Northstar would you?

I LOVE those sale prices. Sometimes you can get super lucky and get the 50% off clearence stuff. I've got a TON of rage tails for under $2.00 a pack from Dick's.
