I bought a baitcaster months ago and practiced to the point where I can cast pretty far, but it aggrivates me so much im giving up on it. I decided to get the Pfleuger president spinning reel, but I need help with a rod. I only like carrying 1 setup because of my situation. I mainly fish with 1/4-1/2 oz jigs and sometimes soft plastics, I want a stiff rod preferably around 6' and around $50?

Dude, I'd save cash until I have around $150 or so before I buy a bottom contact rod. I'd rather have one good rod than two "economy" set-ups. JM $0.02 of course.

What's wrong with your baitcaster? Why not try and fix that before running to buy another set-up? 1/4 oz jig (+ trailer) is definitely baitcaster territory.

BTW, if you still want a $50 spinning rod, the 3 suggestions that will come up are the Berkley Shock, the shock lightning, and the tec spec.

around 50, can take a look at the gander mountain store brand rods as well (if you have one near you, that is) i have a guide series 6'6" ML, no action rating on it, but its a fast action in practice. while the rod isnt one of my st. croixs it is a nice back-up and what i give to the less experienced people i take with me to use. its pretty sensitive, enough so to feel walleyes notoriously light bite with no problems, and i have also used it for perch, which dont usually hit hard, so its not bad on the sensitivity front. decent components (fuji reel seat and guides)

overall it is worth a look, imo. better than the berkleys, for sure, tho i cant compare it to a tec-spec as i have not used one.

If your trying to avoid what Deep mention my only guess is try different store clearance racks. If not that maybe up your money some?

These are only online clearance so the stores may or may not hold more clearance sales. Always check local bait shops too!

Save up a 100$ dollars, and look at the flea market on here and multiple other forums you can get an avid or a crucial for around a 100$. A bottom contact rod is not something you want to skimp on. Just my .02$

i agree with a lot of others, but if money is short, check out fenwick's line of eagle gt rods. ive had a couple of them and they havn't let me down. not the most sensitive, but compared to other rods at that price point, they dont feel as "chunky" or cheap like comparable berkley and shakespeire counterparts.

X2 the eagle GT is an excellent rod for the price and performs like a 100+ dollar rod. i love my 6'6" eagle and wouldnt trade it for anything.
