Rapala Deep Tail Dancers

Featured Replies

I was just given a few of these in the 3 1/2" size and was wondering how you fish these. They look like they would be like a DT-20 or DD22 but the guy that gave them to me said to twitch them like a jerkbait. Anybody fish them or know their intended purpose?

I hear they are good for walleye, can't say as I have heard of anyone specifically using them for bass.

They are primarily a trolling lure. Great for walleye and I have picked a few smallmouth contour trolling. The depth they run at is stamped on the  lip. Never really tried them as a casting lure.

I have a few and they are not my go to crank by any means but I have done well with them when other cranks weren't producing.

They are good bass lures. Banana cranks like wally divers and tail dancers are really overlooked for bass and they do work well. The deep taildancers are good deep running cranks.

A fish - bass, walleye, or king mackeral - doesn't know the difference between a crankbait designed for bass or one designed for walleye. It's all about depth and speed control. Anything else is just fluff.

A+

Buck Perry proved that point with his "spoonplug". Although the spoonplug vies for world's ugliest lure,

it's a stable tool that provides control over 'depth' and 'speed', the two most critical factors of presentation.
