Interesting Drop Shot Technique Using A Jig

Featured Replies

I haven't tried it, but I think this might be a good technique. Let me know if anyone has done it and have a good success on it.

Pretty neat variation. Not totally unlike the bubba rigs I use in the pads. I'd use a longer drop line, though.

That is the standard "chicken rig", but using a ewg hook. As kid my dad used that setup using bait hook and and live minnows thru the upper lip, in saltwater chunk bait but I bet a plastic fluke or shrimp would be a killer.

That knot he used on the widegap (he called it the double-clinch) is the infamous Shaw Grigsby "I have no idea what it's called but it's THE best knot for fluoro" knot. Who knew?

Does the standard chicken rig use a punch skirt above the hook? That's the innovative part the video is sharing.

A chicken rig is used mainly for cut or live bait, usually with 2 or 3 hooks. When I fish over reefs I often use a chicken rig with 1 hook and a skirt. Since the single hook is tied on the main leader and not running a second leader off the main, it's a chicken rig. In drift fishing we use skirts, on that set up my hook as at the bottom of the leader, egg weight on top of the hook and the duster or skirt on top hiding the weight. Other style of skirts are made for trolling, tuna, sailfish wahoo etc.

something like this , looks pretty similar

I'm sure the set up in the video is a killer presentation.

What I think is new in fishing are the materials now being used. Techniques go back and forth from salt to fresh and vice versa, I taught myself how to be an inshore fisherman by being a freshwater fisherman first, it is not too much different. One of my favorites jigs is an ice fishing jig , they sell them here and call them banana jigs.

Or new designs. Let´s take for example shakey jigheads, I´ve been pouring my own round jigheads for a good couple of decades, the only difference was the hook size in relation to the lead weight, I pour 1/16, 1/8 oz n´ such with 3,4 & 5/0 hooks to shakey fish, new shakey jighead designs are far from those round jigheads I pour, however, they have served the purpose extremely well for all those years.

That an awesome idea just goes to show theres always room for innovation in fishing!

Kool.

Will have to try it next year.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Actually it wasn't. The knot Shaw was showing goes up and wraps three times DOWN the line. Bub used three wraps UP the line.
