Lew's Tournament Pro Question

Featured Replies

Hey guys just got the lews tourney pro and it seems to be built very well. my question is with the centifical braking there are 4pins, if i dont touch those pins and leave them alone then the braking is on its fulliest, and if i was to engage two of the pins by snapping down into place that would lower the braking system and give me more free spool, correct??? i just want to make sure i understand the online directions. thank you

yes you are correct if you push two off then you will have a freer longer spinning spool then if you had 4 on.

when you get it none of them are on i have one i have one on and when you push it towards the outside then you should see a little tab pop out against the spool that means it is on so towards the shaft is off and out towards the aluminum parts of the spool is on.Let me know if you have anymore questions.

pushing them inward locks them in the "off" position. pushing outward turns them on. The more you have off, the more freespool you'll have in casting. I have 2 on and 2 off on my Lews TP.

i thought they had a six pin brake.

4 pins, atleast on mine

I have a team lews it also only has 4 pins.

x2

Sounds similar to the Shimano system

yep they have 4 pins and they are relatively small but it depends what i am throwing usually on my tournament pro i only have one on but sometimes with like 3/8 jigs i will go to two. It all just depends on how i am throwing that day hah. If i am having a bad day i turn an extra one on.

If you are a good with a bait caster then i would lock all the brakes off.

It is way different then shimano 2 pins and your ready for anything i needed all four off to cast far.

Out of curiosity, do you use any mag break or spool tension?

I have 2 off and 2 on on my Tournament Pro reels and I have the spool tension set fairly free(lure falls under its own weight pretty easily) and I usually have my MAG brakes between 2 and 4.

Just play with what works best for the typical lure you are using.

My jig rod is set different than my other rods.

If your line is backlashing at the beginning of your cast (jumping off the spool immediately) than turn some more breaks on.

If the backlash happens towards the end of the cast, turn up your spool tension.

That trick has helped me.

I run 2 breaks on and the mag turned off and no spool tension to the point of having side to side slop.

I can sometimes get down to 1 break on but I can't turn them all off.

I've flushed the bearings on all 3 of my reels maybe they're a bit faster and need more break?

Anyone else run no centrifical break?
