Favorite fall crankbait

Featured Replies

I'm just curious to see what everyones favorite fall crankbait is when chasing the bass that are keyed in on very small shad?

Mine would have to be either a RC.5 or Sebile Flat Shad.

Jointed shad rap 05 and 07 in shad color. It is a suspender that can be worked real slow if needed and works in all water clarities.

Zoom Z Flat

BigM Flat Shad

Honorable mentions:

-Shad Rap #5

-LC Skeet Mini (excellent 'numbers' crankbait)

These are all great baits for fall cranking.  I mainly use the WEC Hickey but I'm mainly refering to when they are dialed into the tiny shad.  The ones that are about 3/4 - 1" long.  I might be missing the boat but I can't seem to get them to consistantly commit to larger baits.

Zoom Sweet P

LC Flat Mini SR

LC Bevy Crank 65 SR

These are all small baits that get a lot of bites.

Small cranks only?   Some of my favs:

Flat-Shad Little B (also casts well and behaves well in cover)

Bagley Honey B, Bitty B, or KB1 round lip (on the bigger end of the spectrum)

Norman Deep Tiny N

Zoom Sweet P

mine are mostly spring as that is when i through them. but a RC 1.5 and bandit 100

Bandit 100  (wide-wobble, fast rising)

Right now? Lucky Craft Slim Shad.  It seems to run at the depth that fish are, and has the right wiggle.

We don't have shad in Western Colorado so I usually imitate bluegill, green sunfish, small bass, or crawfish. My favorite fall crank is a Bomber Model A.

If you were needing to imitate a small shad I would go with a CC rattlin Shad in the 2" size. I also love the #5 shad rap but you need spinning gear and light line to cast it which could cost you around thick cover.

Storm wiggle wart

The smallest Big O is an excellent bait.

I know this is all about crank baits. But an excellent choice for this situation is a curly tail grub and a jig head. Kalin and Yum Muy grubs are excellent choices.

Will, take a look at the Skeet Mini LC's. They're small but they cast really well.

Will, I just bought a huge lot of Bandit cranks. In the lot were some Bandit 1000's and 1100's. They are 1.5" long, 1/8 oz. The 1000 is pretty much a small wakebait (dives 1ft or less), the 1100 dives 3' - 6'. These may be a good alternative for you in the fall. They are small.

In the fall when fish school up in the backs of creeks, the Lucky Craft Moonsault is absolutely deadly.  It's all about the moonsault cb-100; for some reason the 50 just doesn't have the shimmy the 100 does.  The moonsault cb100 is the bait I give novice anglers to use when they fish with me.  It always catches fish.

rc .5.

lc flat mini dr.

lc slsim shad.

sometimes, i think lc lost their mind when they discontinued the moonsaults series.
