Sammy or Spook

Featured Replies

Which one do you like?  When is the best time of year for these baits.  I heard the fall but not sure.

I like Sammies the best but I also throw the Spook Puppy a lot. My favorite times to use them is during the early post spawn and in the fall when shad are schooling, but they work all year long.

98.5 % of my cranks are Lucky Craft with the exception of the sammy.  I have two of them but I much prefer the ZaraSpook.  IMO, no one has been able to master the sound and action you get from the spook.

I much prefer the Super Spook Jr. to the Lucky Craft Sammy.

When the sammy is paused, the tail-end sinks down, giving the lure the posture of a slim-jim bobber.

To get the lure out of the hole, dissipates the crispness of the jerk.

In contrast, the high-riding super spook responds instantly and crisply to each jerk.

But as always, to each his own.

They both have their place and time i think! The Spook is a more aggressive lure that calls them from a ways out! The sammy is a more subtle bait! I use the spooks in the summer and the sammy in the fall mostly!

My vote would be a spook. Bass seem like they hit the spook harder than other topwaters. It's easy to use and has great action.
