Split Ring Pliers

Featured Replies

what specific brand would you recommend?

i seem to be replacing more and more hooks, either on used crankbaits or swapping on new ones.

i bought some on EBay... Southbend brand... but they don't work very well... i end up using my fingernails..(no fun) to finish the job.

i looked on EBay again and see some from Rapala, Berkley, etc.

what specific ones do you use and like?

or if you have some you would sell that would be good too..

thanks..

Texas Tackle, without a doubt. I have a pair in front of me, now, on my desk; I just changed 150 baits worth of rings and hooks and I wouldn't use any other.

I also have a pair of the Texas Tackle. The size I have works very well with small and medium rings. You can't go wrong with them, although I'm not familiar with other brands that might also do the job very well.

I have a pair of rapala needlenose pliers that have a split ring deal on the end, they work fine for me!

Texas Tackle, you can't beat them for the small split rings that are on crankbaits.

thanks guys..

Texas Tackle it will be..... i just read about them thru the link and on their website..

ordering today..

Guys, here's a brand no one has mentioned, and trust me these are awesome, so easy to open the split rings: Brand is Xuron. They make alot of high end tools. Not cheap but the best.

I picked up the Xuron brand from a site that their website had a link to and have been using them for 4 months.

I had the Texas Tackle ones but now they are put away in a drawer.

The Xuron are so far superior to all the others because of ease of opening up even the smallest split rings and they are spring loaded, which of coarse means, if you relax your grip they open in your hand perfectly.

I can tell you I DO NOT recomend the small Rapala ones.....they are junk. Maybe it's just me, but I change the hooks on all my SK cranks, either right out of the box, or after only a few fish. IDK what SK is using for split rings, but they are the toughest sons of guns to work with, the Rapala pliers gave up working with them SK rings.

i bought the Texas Tackle ones and they are so easy to use!! i've changed dozens of hooks already.

thanks for the good recommendation!

Guys, hookset and I are right on this one. Xuron is the way to go. So easy to open any split rings with these. I think I paid about $15.00 for them. After using them I would have paid $30.00 for them. I've had other brands but none compare to these.

The ones I have are garbage.Looks like I'm investing in some Xuron Split ring pliers soon.

I found a pair about 6 years ago on the jettie, cost no more than 10 bucks, works perfect on the smallest to some large ones I use for offshore. I use my thumbnail for removal of the old hooks and rings, use the pliers for installation. Isn't too much to it.
