Here are my 1st ties. Three are on 1/4oz socket-eye GP jig heads, and two 4/0 trebles. Got allot to learn, and will need more practice.

Nice. I like those trebles a lot, I am looking to tie very soon myself, did you tie a knot when done or just put head cement on the end of the thread?

The thread I have is non-waxed E, and tends to unravel if you take pressure off, so I did a couple of half hitches after each pinch of bucktail, and dab of head cement. On the final did five half hitches and a good layer of head cement.

Those look good, the only way they improve is practice, and time on the water so you know more of what you want, my first jigs looked like poo compared to those. That is the aspirin head correct? Have you checked out the new tear drop head from do it? I have been tying my regular bucktails on that now and really like that jig, I don't pour the trailer keeper in it when I am using it to tie bucktails

Very nicely tied. Depending upon what bait you will be using the treble hooks on they may be dressed a little full not to adversely affect the bait's action. I prefer bucktail or feather to be dressed about 1/4 as fully and to not extend past the treble bend farther than the treble's total gap.

I think you got the bottom jig hair quantity about right, pretty sparse! I prefer less action to most of my hair jigs. To this goal, when I use rubber strips I only use about six strips; pulling the forward facing ends of the strips back over the first wraps and tying them down facing back.

Yea, without the eyes, they do look like the aspirin head. Putting on the 3d eyes rounds them out more. The ones I tied are menat to be more crawfish like, so don't bother with eyes.

With a pair of side cutters, can make them to what I need. They take a slightly larger hook than their regular fine wire round heads.

I'll take a look for the mold you mentioned. My lead mold collection can always take another!

The trebles are for Muskie/Pike sized spinners, and the main reason I decided to get into tying bucktails. I will be doing singles and gangs, also trying some of those flashabou and skirt tab styles for pike/muskie. Doing my own for smallies and walleyes, is just a plus. By next year, I'll probably add rabbit and marabou.

Don't discount those larger bucktails for smallies, we have a couple sections of river up here loaded with both Muskies and big smallies, and seems like there is days that smallies will attack a 8" bucktail with a vengeance!

Yea, that would break my heart to catch a huge smallie on them! While most of our muskies have been inadvertant ones, fishing for smallies and eyes, don't have an issue with the reverse. We caught a smallie last year that was only 2" longer than the muskie spinner!

Got to love the fighting spirit of the smallmouth bass. Very nice lures indeed.
