Best Line For Drop Shot And Shakeyhead

Featured Replies

i was wondering what would be a good line for my dropshot/shakeyhead rod. flourocarbon or yo zuri hybrid? this would be the first time i would use flouro. i used yo zuri last year in 6lb test on my fluke rod and really liked it. if i was gonna use flouro i was looking into the bps flouro or seaguar invisx in either 6 or 8lb. what would be the best option and best lb test? im open to other optons also

Any of those would be good options. I like Seaguar and I've really been liking the P-line C21. There are lots of guys that like braid for a main line and then use fluoro leader.

THE best setup is a superline with flurocarbon leader. You eliminate the affect of line twist ( doesn't prevent it) and have the fluorocarbon line at the terminal end.

A better setup is the above with the two lines connected with a quality ball bearing swivel.

I am going to say definitely use braid. It is so much more sensitive than other lines. Tie off a flouro leader and you are good to go.

I use 8lb Y/Z and 10lb 100% Flouro.

I prefer the 8lb YZ.

Comparing the two, The 100% stretches less. That is the only advantage. Isn't managed as well on spinning gear, and isn't as strong as the 8lb. I feel the contact with the bait is the same (even though 100% is more dense)

I'm going to be switching to 6lb YZ this coming season.

consider Nanofil. I liked it better then braid, leader or no leader.

Dropshot line will always be fluorocarbon for me, I dislike braid for the purpose. I used to use it a lot, but figured out that I was missing fish on a lift bite; with fluoro, I'd be willing to say that I catch 30% more fish with the technique on the whole.
