I just inherited a bass boat,which is GREAT, cuz I LOVE BASS FISHING! However, it has been sitting, winterized in eastern Pa, for 7-8 years without running. I'm nervous because I have no idea what this may need as far as work goes. I dont have pictures YET (its two hours from me), but I'll get some.

I can say this: it has moss growing out of the carpet, its gel coat looks like tick (literally), the trailer has some rust spots. So, it needs work. I just don't kow how much.

I can figure a few obvious things need replacing, like: wheels, bearings, trailer breaks, tires, all pumps. But what else should I be looking at? I know I'm asking a very vague question, but I dont know enough about bass boat guts to ask more accurate ones.

Anyone ever deal with a boat sitting for a while? How did you restore it?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

PS: Its a 1997 Nitro Savage 883 w/ a 150 HP Mercury EFI

I dont know 100% for sure, but i would bet you would need these things replaced as well: batteries, fuel hoses, carpet, seat upholstery, possibly trailer wiring, possibly ignition wiring, trolling motor(it is 14 yrs old) and I dont know about wood and foam, but I am sure just sitting the foam has soaked up TONS of water, and any wood has rotted!

I guess this was the inevidable answer. Thank you, and you're right...

Take the motor to a pro before you attempt to start it. Have someone check the hull for any rot or weak spots. Once these are done and you know the boat is seaworthy then you can address the other stuff. If you are handy and have the time and $$$ the sky's the limit.

A year ago my boat looked like this....That is the interior, that I shoveled out of it.

Anything is possible. It isn't done yet, but needless to say, it doesn't look anything like that anymore.

any wood will need replaced im sure, i bouqht a boat one tme thathad set for years, had to replace the floor, as far as motor if it ran whenparked chancesare it still will run just check wirinq, cause sometimes rats or anythinq else will chew wires into, and check the impeller in the water pump, they can deterierate.
