Has anyone tried the Green Reelman? I hear he does a great job cleaning reels with environmentally green products.....

Simple Green (and generic equivalents) is an environmentally friendly cleaner/degreaser and is commonly used by almost every professional reel tech I know. All of the folks I know in this business are environmentally conscious and practice responsible handling of products and waste. I don't personally know the person you referenced but would be glad to answer any questions about my own practices.

They are green, and oh bye the way CHEAPER than petroleum based solvents. Let's not even get into the disposal of those solvents.

Noticed everyone is talking simple green..

I used that stuff in the 90's and found you had to heat it to get it to actully cut built up grease, or you had to use ultra-sonic.

Shifted to Safety-Kleen and never looked back, triple filtered system, self contained, and, recycled by SK.

Simple Green took the anodizing off my wife's rims when I used it to remove brake dust. Hate to think what it would do to a reel. I ruined the finish of a Revo SX just whipping it down with a rag that had 3 in 1 oil on it. After that even reel oil scares me!

Palmolive and elbow grease works fine for me. Never had an issue with Simple Green, works great as a final wipe down to get oily finger prints off.
