Weighted Hook Size for Fluke?

Featured Replies

What brand and size weighted hooks do you all use on your flukes?  I am using a ZOOM Fluke but I'm not sure what size weighted hook I should use.

Flukes, or Super Flukes?  Or one of the other two sizes?

For Super Flukes, I don't use any weight, and I either nose hook them with a 1/0 snelled Owner Mosquito Hook, or rigged weedless with a 5/0 Owner Wide Gap Plus.

The Baby Flukes make great drop shot baits.  Any of the sizes are also great on Sworming Hornets and Fish Head Spins.

I prefer a bigger 5/0 EWG hook on Super Flukes. This gives it a little more weight to cast with but not enough to hinder the darting action on the retrieve. It deadsticks nicely too.

Here a thread from earlier this year on flukes. There's a lot more if you look around too. Flukes are fun, you can fish them many different ways. Good luck!

A ZOOM Fluke, not the ZOOM Super fluke and not the ZOOM Tiny Fluke. Just a regular ZOOM fluke.

Thanx for the information guys.

3/0 Wide Gap Plus, no weight.  Work great on the chin spin jigs mentioned above as well.

my go to fluke setup is a 1/8 oz keel weighted mustad hook 4/0.  If you want to do a faster retrieve, I find that it stays straighter in the water.

yeah, if I want to fish a fluke deep I use a 4/0 or 5/0 1/8oz keel weighted wide gap hook. I think I also fish some 1/16oz but I usually fish 1/8

An "unweighted" Gamakatsu 4/0 Superline hook weighs 21 grains.

That's perfect for the decent rate I prefer (about 2 ft in 5 secs).

I hook the fluke centrally in the length, so it darts and falls horizontally.

I would use a 1/0 EWG that has a 1/16 ounce weight on it.
