Best Braid?

Featured Replies

In your opinion, whats the best all around, affordable braid (smooth casts, doesn't dig, least amount of wind knots)?

regular power pro is outdated and inferior.i would try there super slick product.it is a modern smooth 8 strand braid.i use sufix 832 personally.fireline braid is also very good(NOT REGULAR FIRELINE).

my vote is for suffix 832

The 400+ bass I caught on a frog last year didn't mind my inferior and outdated green 65 # PP.

I'll keep hauling fish in on my outdated Power Pro. Works for me, and is now on the bottom end of the braid price spectrum....that also works for me.

Power Pro Hi-Vis Yellow, tie on a leader for visibility concerns.

Prefer PP's diameter-to-pound test. Tried numerous other brands, just find PP best for me.

Suffix 832, Suffix brad,PP is my 3 er pick. All 3 are good!

Gotta deal on some spiderwire stealth in 30lb a few years back. Its been great. Still has its color, casts smooth and no dig in issues. Power pro, stren, and regular suffix have been good to me also. You'll find most braids are very similar when comes to actual performance when fishing.

no love for zebco omniflex braid for 7 dollars a box =P

The original, Spiderwire.

x2 on that dude!

Yeah. Im using outdated PowerPro Also. Shame the fish don't know.

I use PP, Fins and Stealth braid, 10-15-20# on spinning gear. I don't notice a bit of difference in any of them, all cast just fine and the strength is there to handle very hefty fish.

I have been using Suffix 832 for about 8 months. I haver found that it breaks down pretty quick, especially the first three feet from the bait. I used some Tuff Line Braid a few days back and was surprised that it showed no signs of breakdown after three days of heavy use.

tuf line xp and daiwa samurai are by far the best braids on the market.

i fish 65# PP on my jig/flipping od

65# Tuf-line on frog rod

tuf line is similar to PP but cheaper

By whose standard? They sure aren't by mine. PowerPro Super 8 Slick has better qualities than both, and Kanzen is better than S8S. Saying they're the best on the market is entirely subjective. They're good, but they're not at the top of the food chain anymore.

the question was what's the best braid not who still fishes with string on a stick.

Did I read something about the qualifier, " affordable ?" I just spooled a new reel yesterday with the outdated and inferior Power Pro green for a nickle a yard. Would that be viewed as affordable ?

I have tried a few brands, but i keep finding myself going back to the good ol' green power pro. I actually enjoy the rougher feel of it as i think i can control the line/ spool a bit better while say sufix 832 slips too easily from under my thumb. As well, the first yard of that 832 breaks down too fast. Decent otherwise, but i'd rather not pay $10 more for it, and then have to cut off at least a yard after each trip.

The newer braids, including both of those I mentioned, can be had for around the $15 mark on sale. If that's not affordable...well...
