Abu Garcia Vs Shimano Vs Lews

Recommended Posts

I just know that I am opening up a can of worms, but whatever, I want opinions.

I own 4 Premiers currently, no other baitcasting reel. However, I'm not sponsored, and I have been looking at the Shimano Chronarch and Lews Tournament Pro.

I love the Premier's dual brakes, high drag test, and LIGHTWEIGHT! However, money is tight and I have rods in need of reels. I cannot justify spending over $175 on a reel anymore. I can get a Lews TP for around $160 and right now, with Shimano's $30 rebate and BPS Classic sale, I can get a Chronarch for $140! However, its a full ounce more than my Premier. I'm torn.

I like owning all the same reel because I want it to all feel the same in my hand.

If you could buy just one, which would you pick????

the lew's TPSS are the same weight as the premiers and are very close in fishability and feel. the lew's longer carbon handle is the biggest difference (85mm vs. the premier's 80mm) and, of course, lew's signature paddle grips. that's probably the best choice for you since you stated you like all your reels to feel the same, assuming you're keeping the premiers. i have two and they're very nice.

for me, if i had to, i'd go all chronarchs. i love those big fat grippy septon knobs and the ultra low profile fits my hands the best.

I would opt for the chronarch. I know a lot of guys love their lews, but I would feel more assured with Shimanos reliability and years of proven performance. Plus their customer service is to notch.

lews all the way. they just feel better, tighter tolerances, amazingly smooth, light, function flawlessy, and theyre customer service is also top notch. lews was the first to produce low pro baitcasters, theyve got a proven track record, just ask guys who have their first models. id go with lews, not that shimano or abu is junk, just that lews are imo in a class of their own.

I dont think you can go wrong with either Lew's or Shimano. It will come down to personal preference.

I had 3 Chronarch 50mg's and sold two of them when Shimano changed to the current model. I purchased 2 Lews Tournament Pro's and do not regret it one bit. I use to love my 50mg, but it doesn't fit my hand like the Lews. Now i'm consiering selling my last 50mg. I like my lew's over all the current Shimano line-up (excluding Calcuttas). I also have the the first year Abu Premier. I would have a tough decission to make if I had to choose between my Premier and Lews, but I'd more than likely keep the Lews TP.

Shimano makes stand up products, but I feel as though the Lews and Premier's design surppased the Shimano low profile reels.

BTW, where did you find Lews TP below $199?

I personally like the <7oz reels. they are, obviously, lightweight, but they still balance out my Powell Max rods!

The lew's is a awesome reel. It's top of the line in every way.

The Curado/Chronarch 50e is a bit better if you throw light baits.

If someone walked up to me with two Lews TP's and said, I'll trade you straight up for your two 2011 Revo Premiers. I would go get the boxes and ask him if he wants me to leave the line on them.

I'll make that trade with you if the reels you have are in good shape.

Im interested in purchasing that Chronarch 50mg if you decide to sell it.

You have two Lews Tournament Pro's to trade for Premiers? PM me with details on the gear ratios and picks if you do.
