Ponds In Early March

Featured Replies

I've been out to a few local ponds the past couple of days and can't get a bite. Just looking for a few early spring tips. the ponds are 8 feet deep max and the bank is lined with a thin layer of weeds.

I fish a pond right now and I have been having very good success with a red eye rattle trap. Using the kvd method of pulling and dropping the trap and slow rolling a swim bait. If you got any wood or rock slow crawl a jig. Hope this helps

I caught a 3lber yesterday at a pond on a 3/8 white chatterbait with a live magic shad as trailer. Me only fish for the day and my first on the year. My buddies was just worm and bobber and caught a few crappie. They got nothing on the medium minnows I brought.

Sadly I lost my chatterbait yesterday as well must be a tree in that pond. We was bank fishing.

I'm in VA and I've been having the most luck trolling the deep sections of small ponds with minnow colored jerkbaits and throwing dark green colored plastics around structure. Where are you fishing auburn5?

If your water is only 8' deep there are a couple of things I would try.

If it's overcast, darker colors work better, if it's sunny more natural colors, if its a breezy day I would go with some top water action along the shoreline or a spinner.

Let us know what you are trying and maybe we can be of more help to ya.
