Help Just Bought New Rod Have Questions On Uses

Featured Replies

just bought a powell max for 6'8" bc medium xfast but was wondering do any of you throw smaller cranks witha rod like this ? I have in my pond but never had trouble catching pond fih as they usually inhale lures,,,,but onn the lakes im kinda hesitant,,,,thx for your help

The extra fast tip is certainly not ideal for cranks. I would use that rod for light jigs or plastics and maybe spinnerbaits.

That's a great light to medium spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. Will also work for spook type topwaters and jerkbaits. You can even do light t-rigs and jigs, if you want. Crankbaits? That's about the last thing I'd use an x-fast rod for.

I'd never even attempt using a crankbait with that rod, it might make a decent jerkbait rod and spinnerbaits/buzzbaits, jigs and worms will all be good choices but if you wanted a rod for cranks this isn't it.

You might get away with shallow cranks or traps, but I prefer a fast rod for that. Definitely wouldn't match it up with braid in that situation, though. Definitely not for deep divers either.

I have 6'8 M-XF that I use for shaky heads.

Oh just realize was a casting rod Hmm me i would do what others said 3/8 or so chatterbaits, spinnerbaits.

I'm Old School...The rod is ideal for single hook lures.
