Which line do you prefer for swimbaits: mono, fluro or braid? Please provide details and rationale.

For small baits (Shadalicious, Hollow Belly, Keitech & SwimSenko)

#12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. For larger baits (Mattlures Baby Bass), #50 Braid.

12-25# P-Line CXX.

When I'm fishing the smaller swimbaits, such as the paddletailed Shadalicious variety, I fish it on 15# fluoro. I do this because I'm using a 7/16 oz. weighted swimbait hook (belly weight) and crawling it along the bottom. The fluoro seems to be more abrasion resistant, yet has a little stretch to allow you some forgiveness on hook sets. I never liked braid for the big stuff.

When I'm tossing the Hudds & BBZ-1's, I only use Triple Fish Perlon Mono in the 25# size on my musky tackle. This line works very well with the large swimbaits, has limited stretch and is more forgiving on strong hook sets. Casts like a dream too, on my Abu 6500-C.

For hollowbellies such as Shadalicous, I use 15lb P-Line 100% flourocarbon. I use this because its more of a finesse swimbait and usually in ultra clear to slightly stained water. The fluoro is very abrasion resistant and allows the bait to get deeper if I need to by slowing down the retrieve. I will use braid if fishing in the reeds and pads.

For something like a BBZ-1 I like 25lb P-Line CXX (Also Trilene Big Game works if I run out). This stuff may have ALOT of memory but that usually is not a problem when throwing something of this size. On a swimbait this size I like to have a little bit of stretch because the fish already has alot of weight they can use to their advantage and when they bite, I like to give them just a split second more to get the bait before the point drives through. I seem to take the bait away with braid even with a moderate action rod.

The majority of my swimbait fishing is on 15# Tatsu. When I move above the regular baits to Hard Triples and the like, I am typically throwing either Maxima, or this year I've been playing with C21 in large diameter as well. So far, I'm liking it.

6" baits to light 8" baits: 15 lb yo-zuri hybrid (MH setup)

8" baits: 25 lb big game (H setup)

10" baits: 25 lb big game (XH setup)

Why not use spider wire flurobraid. I'm using that right now for my alabama and swimbait rod. it sinks and still has the sensitivity of braid. No need for a leader, fish are being caught with the alabama rig. Thats five wires in front of those baits three in other states. If fish are being caught with wires i'm sure braid isn't going to be a promblem, unless maybe your fishing up north in the great lakes.

Depends on size of the bait. For smaller ones I like 12 pound stren, while 17 or 20 pound stren for the biggest. Fluoro is probably a bit better for swimbaits, in which case I would go with P - Line 100% fluoro in 14 - 17 pound. I just like mono for it's versatility, in case I want to throw a big topwater on my swimbait rod.
