Frog Fishing

Featured Replies

Just watched a few videos on walking a frog makes me want to use one. It has been 80+ degrees for a week is it to early to bring out the fro?. Is braid absolutely neccesary or would floro work?

If I can hear frogs, it is time to fish with one. Given the type of stuff you usually have to deal with when frog fishing, I would stick with braid starting at 20 and only going up from there.

If fish are shallow, they will bite a frog. Even in the winter, just not as aggressively as other months, bass will bite a frog. Just go out there with confidence and throw it like you know it will get bit.

avoid sinking lines around lillies. the line will sink into the lower parts of the plants and get caught up under the pads and kill the action if not tangle. first hand experience from last season. i would stick with floating braid. i was even using 832 and having problems but was much worse the few times i tried floro.

I start fishing them when the water temp hits 50 degrees. I use Yo-Zuri hybrid up to 30# test depending on how thick the grass is.

When bass are moving up after a long winter they want an easy meal. They might hit frogs aggressively, but if not, slow it down and leave the frog in their strike zone for a longer period of time - that should get them to bite.

I'll toss a frog almost all year long not just in spring and summer even tho I catch the majority of the fish on a frog during the warmer months I have got a few good ones while the water has been cold

Remember that a top water frog moves and acts NOTHING like a real frog in the water. The bass are relating to movement, water displacement, and activity. Sure it looks like a frog, but don't get hung up on that. Any given day is a good day for any given bait. If you want to throw it, find some slop and sling it in there and see what happens.

We had some crazy stupid warm weather the last 2 weeks here in WNY, lots of bass came up shallow crusing around, pretty much ignoring everything....except a frog. Sounds crazy in mid-late March to be frog fishing around here, but thats what was working. Who am I to argue.

I went to a local lake to observe and saw a few 7 lbs just cruising around taunting me...Our seasons need to be considered for change; anglers who are C&R should have the option of paying a little more for a license that allowes us to fish during this great time.

Anybody have any recommendations on what frog to buy? What frogs do you like?

Hollow belly - River2Sea Bully Wa and Spro Bronzeye

Paddle Tail - Stanley Ribbit

I like to use the spro bronzy frogs as well as the new koppers live target frogs, I've always had better bites if I fish it at sunrise or an hour or two before the sun sets. Also calmer water tends to produce better for me as well.
