I just got this mold and am having some trouble finding the hooks like I want. I got a pack of 5/0 hooks but the gap is not near as wide as the gap is on the jigs I normally fish with that are also 5/0 hooks?

So what mold do you have and what hooks do you use?

I have a mold for them. The ones I use are Mustad hooks that has the Do-it label on them also. They aren't really wide gaped hooks but they are pretty long and plenty heavy. I've been pouring all my football jigs with them and had really good success so far.

Mine are gama 6415 but the gap is only 11/16'' wide. I'd really like a bigger hook.

Are you sure that is the correct number. I think the correct number if that is a 60 ° flat eye hook is #6145. You can use a Mustad 38109 5/0 hook in there. It is an EWG if you like those hooks. However the #38109 hook is thinner than the Gami. Which Do-It mold is this for?

That is the problem, that mold uses aberdeen style hooks which don't have a wide gap at all. I use a 60 degree mold that I can use flat eye hooks or normal eye hooks and it is fantastic. There is nothing wrong with the mold you have but you sound like you more of a flipping style hook but believe me, even though those hooks don't have a wide gap, they are very good at penetrating a fishes mouth with very little effort, try it and try not to compare to other jigs, you may be surprised at what you discover.

Go to the 60 deg mold like smalljaw67 states.

yeah i made the mistake and bought the mold that uses the aberdeen hooks myself. You can either go buy the one with the flat eye or what I did was modify the mold to take some 60 degree hooks with the vertical eye.

I had that 90 degree mold and didn't like it at all, wrong hooks like you said. I sold it and got the 60 degree mold and like it alot better. Plus I use the same head to make chatterbaits so it does double duty.

The 3434 with flat eye is the one you probably need. You already have the other one listed on that page.

What should I use to epoxy the weed guards in?

Personally I use Gorilla Glue. Just gotta remember that when it dries it expands so to much and you have a mess to trim up a bit. Good looking jigs i gotta get that mold ordered.
