my birthday is coming up in less than a month and my gf mentioned she wanted to buy me a shimano core reel, I tried to steer her away from spending so much money but shes dead set on it. I plan on using the reel on my gl2 7'5 mh for light jigs and texas rigging or my 7'5 mossy back heavy rod for flipping heavier jigs and trigs. The question is which core would be right for me? 100mgfv, 50mg7, the mgfv has the flipping switch which I have no experience with and the 50 is an ounce lighter

50. Lighter, more bearings, not that much difference in line capacity. Great little reel.

50mg7. I just love this reel. Fits in my hand just perfect.

x3 for the 50Mg7; I absolutely love mine and it has no problems getting bass out of thick grass and pads.

It unanimous. My 50 is by far my favorite reel! But if I did it over again, I would have dvt supertune a 50e with gear swap. Something I am doing very soon!
