Wanting information on someone who knows, has been recently, not someone sitting behind a computer speculating...
Trying to plan a trip to Baccarac next year and wanting to know about the safety of flying into Los Mochis, Mexico and heading over to Baccarac to fish for a couple days. This is my journey to catch a dd bass, and am willing to take some risk, but not death! Anyone have any info for me?

See the email exchanges below in "It's time to go to El Salto" about why members aren't going to Mexico right now. Good luck if you decide to go

I had actually read through that entire post before and have thought long and hard about it! Talked to the owner of the lodge and he lives in the city that I would be flying into, Los Mochis. He has never had a problem, and promised it would be ok! Tentatively planned for next May! I can't wait!

The business of networks and news papers is to report and nothing draws more attention that bad news, murders, kidnappings, rapes n´such happen on a regular basis everywhere and most of the times to most people such events never happen. If you read the red pages of the newspapers of the city I live in you might think that the City of León is something like the wild west, I´ve lived here for 31 years and other than the relatively normal petty thefts ( stealing the hub caps of my car or breaking the window of to steal the stereo ) I´ve never been robbed, nobody has ever tresspassed or something like that. So what are the chances of happening something bad to you ? well the same odds you have in your home town.

You can go to Falcon stay on the US side and be just as safe with the same probability of catching a DD.

Definitely You have to visit "Guerrero Lake" One of the best places to fish in México (IMO).

I haven't been to Mexico in several years but I've been to Lake Commendero twice. Both times they sent armed guards with us to the lake to patrol while we were on the water. The second time we were on the water we had a guy with an AK 47 swinging in front of him come running down towards where we were fishing yelling for beer. In my best Spanglish I told him we didn't have any beer, just pop and water. I guess at that time they hadn't gotten to the point of kidnapping people to hold for ransom or maybe my holey cloths made me look like I wouldn't know anyone with money but he turned around and walked back up the hill without causing any more alarm. Another group of guys fished through the same place and their coolers got raided because they did have beer.
It is a really fun trip and a great experience but knowing what I know now I'd be a lot more nervous about doing it again.

Shawnee, KS. Don't get to fish tournaments much because of work. I fish everywhere within about a 2 hour drive. I have a couple boats but nothing fancy. I spend a lot of time on smaller lakes but fish La Cygne, Melvern, and Perry quite a bit too.

Well the trip is planned and paid for....will be leaving may 15-20th. Did decide to take a little different approach to get down there. Flying from Memphis to El Paso, and then private plane to the resort! Will be much safer that way!
