  1. both bass boats ive bought have been used. the first boat had just had the motor rebuilt while the second had a warranty on the motor. im currently selling the 884 savage and going back down to the 1800 tournament boat. its 8 years older but its sill in great shape and im only losing 11 mph in speed. if you do buy a used boat take a friend who knows a few things or spend $65 to have a pro check it out. then take it to the lake and run it to death. as to why i didnt buy a new boat they cost a lot more than used and i got the 884 nitro for $8400 which to is a sweet price. the 1800 tournament i paid $4000 for which may have been too much but at the time the boat was oh so clean.
  2. i would assume that portable fishfinders would work fine. http://humminbird.factoryoutletstore.com/details/1382-2609/Humminbird-PiranhaMAX-Series-FishFinders-Piranhamax-210PT-406840-1.html something like that would be perfect.
  3. i was told by an employee at BPS. i assume the info is good info. as far as the lake being no great loss IMO any piece of water thats been in place for over 50 years is a great loss. i personally have no problem boating large bass at the lake, on the other hand i couldnt catch a thing at olathe lake the times ive fished it.
  4. i know.......heh. i was worried about the file being too big and i have no clue as to how to resize the pics.
  5. im told this was a ski boat in 1958, not sure if i believe it or not.........lol. its rated for 40hp motor. when i bought it it was full of water and half sunk in a pond, had to use a tractor to pull the boat out and drain it. i gave $50 for the boat at that time. 6. Olathe, KS 66061 Drive: 754 mi about 11 hours 55 mins 23 turns later Lake Guntersville State Park think i can talk the wife into vegas one week and fishing in Alabama the next?........lol
  7. the rod choice was easy, the johnny morris rods were on sale. i thought the reel choice was also going to be easy, a revo stx but hey shimano has a rebate going so i started messing with the chronarch reels, then the daiwas and before i knew it i was walking out with a daiwa sol. it was a tough choice an i know at least one forum mod will think im crazy but after i mounted the reel on the rod i had to have the sol over the chronarch. the sol does cast oh so well though............
  8. you have $350, do you spend more on the rod or the reel? i chose to spend more on the reel ($229) and less on the rod ($109). i did however spend some quality time fondling the G-Loomis rods until my wife ordered me to move on.
  9. i have 2 of the sx but ive never done anything with the S's so i couldnt tell you what the difference is. whichever you buy id lube it up well before a lot of use, both of mine came all but bone dry.
  10. we can kiss cedar lake goodbye. the land has been sold and will be mined. nothing like killing a 50 year old lake that gives up 6 lbs. bass quite often. > >
  11. have we decided on entry fees? also i read on the KDPW web page that 13"-18" fish can be kept....i think. we might also make sure theres no other tournaments that weekend or the weekend before, a lake that small wont take all the pressure. i know my clubs first tourny is the same weekend.
  12. alright, point taken. maybe ill take the 14' dingy.
  13. i thought it, you said it.......lol. but really, with $20,000 id put 2 great bass boats with good electronics in this young persons driveway. the father/son duo might think about $10,000 on the boat, $1,500 on fishing equipment and just fish.
  14. for not wanting to pull the boat ive spent thousands of dollars on over gravel roads? cuzz to me one gravel road makes all the hard work of the off season a waste of time.
  15. with up too $20,000 you could have 2 really nice bass boats. if this is your first "big boat" you might look for something thats 7-10 years old and learn the ins and outs then trade/re-sell that boat for the shiny new model.
  16. hmmmmmmmmm.......winter strategy i strap my 1911 to my hip and walk the banks looking for crank baits thats been lost and floated to the bank. make a new walking stick and whisper sweet nothings to my bass boat sitting in my garage shining like the day i brought her home. i also like to do a complete clean/lube of all my bait casters. everything cleaned spotless then lubed with the finest grease. sigh............
  17. id be scared to get caught with something under 18" without being sure.......lol
  18. anyone that likes fantasy should be reading terry brooks. i also suggest dean koontz, his work is very good. if you have an open mind you should pick up the book kite runner by khaled hosseini. even though this is a story base in Afghanistan the story related well.
  19. is this lake a fishing only lake? is it no wake?
  20. i dont have to scroll side to side but it seems to take a while for the pages to load now.
  21. id be up for a meet. i would rather the meet be on a bigger lake that didnt have HP restrictions or be a no-wake lake. melvern would be a good place to chase both large and smallies.
  22. you have to place the transducer on the hull of the boat. that part of the hull has to be under water even at plane if the graph will be at the wheel. take your time doing this, its not hard to do but its easy to mess up. i personal like to use kids play-doh to build an area where the epoxy will be formed to keep it from running all over the place. then use a reverse quick clamp to hold the transducer in place while the epoxy sets.
  23. im old school, i run the gas out of my motor if i think it wont see water for over a week, when i was runnin a boat with carbs i ran the gas out every time the boat left the water. the next thing is my family room has 12' ceilings and i stand on the fireplace and practice pitching. if you fish docks, this really pays off.
  24. ;D thats quite funny....lol after a off and on tournament year im taking this year off or finding a different club. it burns me up when you walk by someones boat and look in and someone who takes the meet too serious yells at you for looking at what he has tied on, only to have his kids go look in your boat later to see what youve got tied on.
  25. my boat sits freshly waxed(not the "quickie" wax either) carpets shampooed everything broke over the season fixed full tank of gas batteries fully charged and my boat sits this is when you know your cold water fishing skills blow. i pass the time walking the banks of my fav. fishing lakes looking for lost crank baits thinking march cant come soon enough.....sigh
