B.A.S.S. sticks it to the kids-Bigtime
I loath all this pro bass crap anyway. I am not at all surprised at this. It is all about money.

Know where i can get cheap fishing gear?
Go to Kmart and WalMart, Sports Authority etc. This time of year you can find discounts on fishing gear since winter is not big for fishing sales for them. I bought a Shimano FX series baitcaster rod for $9. There was a nice Shimano FX series spinning outfit with a 4000 series reel for $13.50. You can't get any cheaper new. Ebay is a good place, but you end up haveing to pay shipping charges that can eat up your good deal. Yard sales, estate sales are another good place.

Great article on Spawning Bass
Why don't fishing laws protect bass during the weeks that they are spawning. That seems to be their most vulnerable time and I see no sport at all in sighting them on the beds and throwing stuff at them to you provoke them into taking a lure. Why take the fish at a time that they are reproducing the next generation of fish to keep the sport healthy? For every angler that practices C@R there are plenty that don't.

You won't believe what I caught
My Dad used to catch these and we called them Spoonbill Catfish. Did a web search on them. They are one of the oldest fish known to man 300-400 MILLION years old!! They predate the dinosaurs by about 50 million years. Very interesting catch!

Pendulum Cast
Please elaborate a little more about this. What kind and weight of line?? What weight of Lure?? What kind of reel??? I have never heard of anything tossed with a fishing rod going the distance of 3 football fields. I have now! I did some more surfing for the Pendulum cast and found more info on it. Here is a link to a guy throwing it.

help making quill bobbers
I used to fish with these back in the 60s and I can't find any around here. Bought some porcupine quills and would like to make some crappie bobbers out of them. If I remember correctly they had a little metal winding at the bottom and a small rubber band in the center. I would like to make them a slip style that will go down the line and stop at the split shot and then when you toss it out it will ride back up the line and stop at a bobber stop. This makes it easy to just raise up the rod and swing out into tight spots. I will need a metal winding at the bottom AND in the center for the line to go through. Can someone post a drawing of a quill they might have made like this. many thanks to you.

When Nothing is working...
Try it at night. Drop shot or 1/2oz Texas rig for long distance casting from bank. Been in the low 30s here the last few nights and I caught a couple. Just fished a hour+ each night.

How to get pond opened for fishing
May I make a suggestion. I fished a neighborhood lake with a friend. The association board provides one of those bright colored rubber band looking bracelets that is a specific color. Anyone who lives in the neighborhood and is fishing the lake has to wear that bracelet so others in the neighborhood can see that he lives in the hood and has permission to fish the lake. He can take guests to fish. Might be a good thing to present to the board. A way to keep out those who are not residents.

bullet weight size question
When using bullet weights on a Texas rig, what conditions dictate what size of weight you use. When do you need the large 1/2oz and when the smaller sizes. Thanks

How to Dispose of Fishing Equipment
I stop at a lot of estate and yard sales. Always finding some fishing stuff when the kids liquidate the parents stuff after they die or go to assisted living homes. I would either sell it before that on ebay or some other auction site if you have any items that are really valuable. Donate the stuff for a tax write off. Leave a few in your will. Give some away to your fishing buddies that will put it to good use. If you don't, someone else who cares a whole lot less about it than you will dispose of it for cheap. I stopped at an estate sale a few weeks ago and the guy was selling his father in laws belongings. I asked if he had any fishing rods and the kid goes upstairs and brings down three mint condition Garcia Conolon rods probably from the late 60s in a hard tube rod carrier. Absolutely beautiful and unused. How much? I asked. "Oh, how about $5 for all". See what I mean.

Need help on sea eagle 9
There are several here who have the Sea Eagle boats and will offer their opinion. I bought a SE8 as a result of seeing the pics of the guys Sea Eagle boats here. I found a couple of SE8 boats on Ebay for a great price. I want to get a small SE6 also just for a single fisherman boat when I want to go by myself. My son and I fish the SE8 and we really like it. I have missed a few deals on the SE9 that I would buy for a boat to take my wife and son out on. You can find them used on Ebay and other sale sites on the net for less than new, but the new price is so attractive that if you can afford new then go that route. The boats are VERY nice and the construction is great. If an inflateable is the way you have to go, the Sea Eagle is a great choice. If you buy a new one from them, I think you have a trial time period to check it out and if you don't like it, you can send it back for a refund. How can you go wrong?

How to get pond opened for fishing
This covers signing away your rights to sue if you fish there.

Can't win em all, But I'm off to a good start
You need to get you some insurance. Not worth taking the chance.

How to get pond opened for fishing
Liability is the issue. You will have to talk them into buying liability insurance. Someone gets hurt while at the pond and who ends up paying for it. My brother lives in a lake community. They all have to have liability insurance just in case some one illegally trespasses and gets hurt!!! They can get sued for not keeping them out. The No Fish rule is there to protect them from lawsuits. Count on it. I would not allow anyone to fish there either if no insurance is availiable. The other route would be to sign away your right to sue if you are hurt. Take away the liability..your on your own and they have no fear of being sued. They will probably let you fish.

Good post. Great info. thanks!

The most bizarre fishing video I ever saw
I did a Google search on them. There is quite an effort going on with electric fences in the water to keep these out of the Great Lakes. Seems they were imported for cleaning catfish ponds by midwest farmers and floods washed them into the rivers. These things grow upwards of 100lbs and will totally disrupt the eco systems of waterways they invade. There is a market for the fish as food and they are being fished by commercial fisherman here in the US.

What do you think this fish weighed....
You are right Randall. I stopped off at Varner to walk to bank a bit. Fish had floated down by the fishing pier. Pretty sad to end up killing one like this just to show it off. Next time you see them tell them a trophy fish deserves better treatment than to end up like this.

"Low Budget" fishing videos
I like the videos so much. Just two guys in a small boat having fun catching fish. I like them much more than the $30K boat pros in their Formula One uniforms trying to sell something. Keep it up!!

Help me regain my intrest in fishing
I lost interest for 30 years. Just started back again. Never was a bass angler. Talk about starting over! I have really enjoyed becoming interested in fishing again.
