  1. Determine which bodies of water you are going to fish and then find out what works there. Buy that.
  2. Got to try that with the tubes.
  3. Wow. What a great tip. I went down to my workshop and found everything I needed....old bungee with round strands...drill bit...glue...I had some legs on those poppers in no time. Thanks!!!!!
  4. What can I use for some rubber legs on some poppers I bought that do not have them. Ideas please.
  5. Thanks for your report Randall.
  6. Get out your flyrod and some small poppers with a sinking fly tied on a trailer from the popper. If the surface fly does not get them, the sinker will.
  7. Where did you get that hat?
  8. Great fish-1 MANY Anglers-0 Game over.
  9. I went to have a suspicious place on my arm looked at the other day. My skin doctor took one look at it and told me to lie down and cut it out right there! No problems. Skin cancer is the worst. It will travel to the rest of your body. Protect your self in the sun.
  10. Flyrod! Small popper with a 12" trailer off the hook with a sinking fly on that. If the floating popper does not get them, the sinking fly will. Most fun I ever have fishing is bream on the flyrod.
  11. I fish from an inflatable Sea Eagle boat. I have learned that you have to work with the wind!! Usually you can find an area of the lake with a tree line that will cut the severity of the wind down some. You can also do some drifting with the wind. Just get your boat in a position with the shoreline and the wind at your back and let it move you along. All else fails, drop anchor at different spots and do some slow worm fishing. Fish don't care about the wind.
  12. Tom D. Thanks for the tip. I took a long length of lightweight alder dowel and spent some time on the belt sander tapering it until it snugly fit all the way from the butt section to the ferrule. I then coated it with epoxy and slid it down the center of the blank several times while coating with more epoxy until I had enough on the dowel and then I tapped it as far as it would go. I then worked epoxy in the cracks and taped it shut for an evening letting the epoxy harden. Then the next day I lightly sanded the epoxy excess off of the cracked area and then I coated the area with a light coat of epoxy and then took some nylon thread and wrapped the entire area of the crack and let it dry a day. I took the rod out today and fished it and caught several nice bream with it. I actually like the added stiffness the dowel gives. It shoots a #7 line out like a rocket! How long it will hold up is just a guess, but for now, no problem. I lucked out in that the end of the butt has a cap pressed on that holds one end of the reel tabs. I heated this cap up and it popped right off exposing the entire length of the inside of the rod blank. Old rod is back on the air again!
  13. Let's see. a woman out in a boat with a man that you don't REALLY know all that well......... There is no excuse for his behavior, but if you did not get together with the officials of the club and lay down some ground rules as to being out on the water with this fellow and what was expected and making sure that it was clear with his wife and your husband then I would say that next time things should be handled differently. You should have immediately headed back when this happened and reported it to the officials and to his wife as to what happened, so that a woman will never be paired up with him again. I do not see this as a good idea anyway pairing up women with men that they do not know. Too much can go wrong too fast. I mean no disrespect by this, just my opinion.
  14. Why could you not insert some kind of silicone adhesive type stuff into the broken area and let it solidify and bond with the inside of the rod to give you a bendable filler inside the rod and then apply the reinforcing fiberglass cloth/resin to the outside? Anybody try this?
  15. No insurance. I got my money back from the seller and he just gave me the rod. It was only $18. I have another Wonderod from this era and like it a lot. What kind of insert would you use to put inside the blank? If it was not so close to the ferrule, I could just make it a three piece rod.
  16. Picked up a Shakespeare Wonderod fly rod that is broken about 6 inches down from the first eye on the lower largest diameter rod section. The fiberglass is splintered, but not broken in half. I would like to repair this rod and use it for bream fishing. I have some fiberglass cloth and resin that I use to repair and reinforce all sorts of things. Can this approach be used on a rod??? I was going to work some resin down in the splintered area and then wrap the rod in cloth and resin and let dry and then sand smooth. Anyone here ever use this for a rod repair? thanks I will try to post a pic of the rod break.
  17. I don't have a problem using minnows and the like for others species of fish but that is taking it a little too far imo. Perfectly legal in most areas as long as the gill is caught in the same lake you are fishing in and not brought in from another water. Bass eat these all day long. Why would you thing this is something out of the ordinary to use small bream for bait?? The method for catching them above is perfect. I caught about 100 like this the other night and we put them in a live bait box that floats on the water. When we needed one we just opened the box and reached in. Live gills are a perfectly viable bass bait.
  18. The most legal situation is when you are allowed to catch a bream in the water you are fishing and use it right there. Bringing bream in from some place else in a bucket to bass fish...NO.
  19. Never tried the Ika bait. Who has a good deal on them and what would be a good price for a pack of them.
  20. Caught my first crappie today using a topwater popper. Never done that before. Yes they will hit a topwater fly AND the sinking fly like I caught them on the other day.
  21. How many times have you caught a bass that had a bluegill still in his throat. I fished a small lake last week and talked to a guy who had already caught several bass that had just eaten bream. I use a long crappie pole with a tiny hook on it with a weight on the end of the line to catch tiny bream. Tie the hook about a foot above the weight. Take a nightcrawler and cut it into 1/4" pieces and just put that small piece on the hook and toss the rig out. Pull the line to where you can feel the weight on the bottom and wait for just a little tap-tap. I caught 70 little bream in a few hours, easy baitfish and cheap. What you use as a technique for fishing the bream is up to you. Just be sure to be patient and wait for the bite. Might be good to toss out a few lines with bream on them to cover an area and save some time. I have seen some nice bass caught this way.
  22. I had some fun today at my neighborhood lake. I took a fly rod and rigged it up with a floating fly and then about a foot more leader with a small sinking trout fly. When I made my cast the sinking fly would sink very slowly and if a bream did not hit the surface fly, I was catching crappie on the sinking fly! The surface fly would act sort of like a bobber and when the crappie would bite, the surface fly would very slowly start to go under. First time I had ever caught crappie like this. I was fishing about 6-10 feet from the bank in about 4-6 feet of water. Lot of fun.
  23. 18 and you know what you want to do. Something to be said for that. Don't listen to naysayers. I was told I could never make a good living just being a musician....I am almost 60 now and I have never spent a day in my life without some money in my pocket and a nice roof over my head. I have never in my entire life had to answer for anyone but me. I never had one person ever tell me what I had to do and did not have to do. I never fought morning traffic, had a day job or had a boss. Not many people I know can say that. What does that commercial say "find something you love to do and you will never work a day in your life"! If you have the skill to do this then you will be successful. If you do not then you won't, simple as that. If this is really what you want to do, then go do it and do it NOW. Find you a body of water and learn it like the back of your hand. When you are catching fish on it in a regular basis that you can count on then take some folks out that you know and see what you can do. If things go well then get in the market, advertise and start charging for it.
